Re: New production 5Y3?
Interesting...Looks like JJ is coming out with a 5Y3. Supposed to have the voltage drop of a real 5y3. Will definitely give it a try when it becomes available.

Re: Recording on PC
The Zoom H4 (not sure what the latest model is) is nice and simple. It can function as a standalone recorder or you can hook it up to your PC. It comes with Cubase software. I'm sure Zoom has a newer model, might we worth checking out.

I've been thinking of trying this (http://www.pulsarprofx.com/DecalPRO/index.html). I think you should try it and let me know how it goes.

Re: Schem wiring question
I think what you need to do is redraw the schematic so that the cap is to the right of pin 8 of the rectifier.

Re: Anyone Tried A 5E3 With Fancy OT Iron?
I've experimented with a couple 8K HiFi OT's with a 5E3/Princeton inspired amp. I ended up using a regular 5E3 OT. The HiFi OT's were harsh sounding to my ears. The bass was nice an tight though. Maybe if you use a TMB rather than a regular 5E3 style volume and tone controls you can shape the sound ...

Re: Opinions on my heater wiring work
Assuming all the proper grounding and signal routing has already been done, you should be able further reduce the heater hum by increasing the bypass cap on the 1st stage (22 or 25uF). It will change the sound, but you can compensate by changing the coupling cap to a smaller value.

Re: resistor in series with cap
If you don't have the 10K resistor, you will hear pops when you switch the negative end of the cap to ground. The cap wants to instantaneously charge from no charge to some voltage and that comes out as a pop. The 10K resistor is there to allow for the cap to charge so that when you short out the 10...

Re: I Needs A Nibbler!
If you have a router, I would use a router. You just have to make a template. The router will cut like butter. My next choice will be a dremel with a cutoff wheel. I went to a woodworking show a week ago and saw this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1AezUhkqO0 Kinda pricey though...$169 Edited to ...

Re: Audio Gen
I used to use Audacity. It's free. It will generate tones that you can play via your computer or burn into an audio CD.
Now I use my Jam Man looper pedal with tones generated from Audacity.

M6?
I'm thinking of doing a 2x6l6 Dumble inspired amp this winter and was wondering what type of OT to get. Looking at Magnetic Components, they offer a standard Super Reverb type OT and an M6 version of the same OT. Any opinions/advice? I probably should try both, but thought it might be good to get so...

Re: Brand New Spitfire
If anyone out there has a favorite, let me know. The Eminence Red White and Blues can tame a bright amp. The Carr Artemus is a 2 EL84 amp that uses the Red White and Blues and is still supposed to be British-AC inspired. I've been using a Eminence Private Jack recently on a 18Watt type and been lik...
