Re: Capacitor value between preamp "stages"

To see the link to the spreadsheet you have to be logged in.

There are also some nice calculators here... http://ampbooks.com/home/amplifier-calc ... capacitor/ His books are also very good.

Re: First Try at reverse-engineering a simple amp ...

You have to learn how to do loadlines... some good info info here http://www.audioxpress.com/resource/aud ... /index.htm

Also if you search the forum I believe there is a thread discussing a lot of reference material you can read.

I think Dave Hunter's Two-Stroke is a nice learning platform.

Here's his book...

Baffle for Marshall Style Combo

Hello,

I'm looking to build a Marshall inspired cabinet and have a few questions. How thick were the baffles used in those old JTM and/or 18Watt combos? Also, how were the baffles attached. Did they use a dado or just screwed on via cleats.

Thanks!

With a VVR dimed it's not enough to burn through the output tubes really quickly is it?
You can modify the VVR so that when it's dimed, it defaults to a lower voltage.

Re: Richter Supra-Luxe 5E3 with VVR (Clips Included)

Nice demo!

What kind of camera did you use? I see you have the amp mic'd. Did you record the audio into a separate audio track and then sync it with the video? Been thinking of doing youtube video. Trying to learn about the what gear to use.

Thanks!

You might also look into using rivnuts, instead of cage nuts. I've had good results using this...

Re: Power Scaling

Is there a way to bypass the power scaling circuit just to see if the problem is still there? Also, per your post, it only red plates when there is a signal. I wonder what is going on with Vgk...could it be shifting to a more positive voltage (the one that is red plating) and then not returning to i...

Re: Best Electronics Book

You don't say what type of background you have in electronics. If you don't have anything at all, I suggest checking out the the 1st few modules of NEETS first (http://www.phy.davidson.edu/instrumentation/NEETS.htm). This is what the Navy uses to train their techs. If you already have basic electron...

Re: PT CT light bulb to ground

I think you need to get one of those bathroom light fixtures with a built fan, you get attenuation and cooling, all in one. :)

Re: Does a trainwreck actually need the bruight switch?

The formula I was looking at, from the link above has a MUr. Sorry I do not know how to do greek letters. :) If I understand the site correctly, MUr is dependent on the dielectric, but it's typically 1 for most dielectric. Plus "D" is dependent on how thick the insulation ( a dielectric) is between...

Re: Does a trainwreck actually need the bruight switch?

If you really want to find out the origin of the inductance, you can look for an engineering electromagentics book and it will show how they derive it. It has to do with the diameter of the conductors and properties of the dieletric between inner and outer conductor. It's been years since I've seen...

Re: stringing zener diodes

If you put three 10W 25V zener in series (same direction) then it's like having one 75V 30W zener. Each zener will have the same current (I) going through it, but each zener will only drop 25V (Vd). Vd*I=Power dissipated by each zener. This layout shows how 1 zener is used to drop the voltage on a 5...
