Re: SE rocket crash

Andrew - I just looked at the Liverpool schematic and I believe you are correct... add your negative feedback onto pin 3 of that 2nd preamp tube (between the tube and the 10K resistor)... let us know what it sounds like... if it takes too much edge out of the tone try a bigger resistor until you lik...

Re: SE rocket crash

Andrew, I think it's pretty cool as you see an amp come into alignment... so to speak. I'll attach a Fender Champ 5E1 schematic that will show you how where to hook up the negative feedback... it's the 22K resistor at the top of the page. Try a few different values greater than the 22K and see how i...

Re: Is there a 2X EL84 output trainwreck schematic?

Cool guys, thank you.... I like the simplicity of that Rocket... The various pieces are starting to come together for me. I appreciate your patience and guidance.

Re: Schematic of an ODS with a cathode follow... anyone?

Thanks Jelle... I'm just curious what that Dumble preamp sounds like when you mate it up to other power sections and such... In your case it sounds like things are dominated by the output section... I appreciate your input. I've seen a couple feelers out there looking for info on Single ended output...

Re: SE rocket crash

Andrew, It sounds like your are getting real close... I tend to agree with Zippy... just a little drop in gain might clean it all up. If you put in giant resistors in the signal path (like 1 Meg or so) your high frequencies will start to drop out so avoid going too far... but you should be able to h...

Re: SE rocket crash

Andrew, If it sounds better, you're on the right track. I tend to swap stuff out and listen for the differences until it sounds right and eventually it all makes sense to me. The better way to do things is probably to study and get a thorough understanding and change components for more logical reas...

Schematic of an ODS with a cathode follow... anyone?

Does anyone have a schematic of an ODS with a cathode follower... and further comments on a cathode follower in an ODS?

Re: SE rocket crash

Andrew, can you lead me to a Rocket schematic? I think I've got the one for the Octal Fatness. I've had similar experiences with a couple of my SE amps, but I'd like to look at the schematic before I say anything...

Might be good to have your voltage numbers too.

Sweet smokin tone...

Smokin Tone - that is a really sweet sounding amp... I am greatly envious of that kind of sustain. I assume the Hamer is a solid body and you had the amp cranked... great job on the playing and recording as well. A friend of mine did an in depth comparison of various 6L6's and he determined that the...

Re: Low wattage amps using 7 pin pentodes

Josh, Thanks again for the note... I apologize because I don't follow the lingo right on the money... when you say you've got to have a rail at 265V for the PI... I understand that PI is the phase inverter, is the 265v rail the voltage tap for the PI tube? If that's the case I guess that is a bit hi...

Yeah I saw that... I was going to put in a bid but wasn't watching and missed the final countdown for the auction... when I saw what happened it was just as well... Must have been just the right thing for that bidder...

Is there a 2X EL84 output trainwreck schematic?

Hello All - I am looking to build an EL-84 output amp using two EL84's rather than four like in the Liverpool... has any done this or is there another trainwreck model that I could follow?

Thanks - RJ

7 Pin Pentodes - just for the casual builders

Josh, Thanks for the notes... I agree the 7 pin stuff is probably just for the casual home builders. I can always find a few of anything, but I spose that when you need a guarantee of consistent supply in larger quantities it's not gonna happen. concerning your other notes... 320 volts on the plates...
