Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

It's all interesting, I can't say we'll ever know for sure but if our forefathers at AmpGarage did their due diligence I be inclined to believe them over the newer info from Pacific... my 2 cents. The real guru of Wreck trannies is Rob Hinson and he knows more than anybody else as far as I can tell....

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

I am slowing shutting down my amp parts sales but have been keeping a few Pacific tranny sets around to go along with the last of everything else I've hoarded for the past several years. In the last few months Pacific has quit responding to my email requests for new transformers so I think this is a...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

At one point I designed a PCB board for a 2W Express, but I never pursued or published the effort because it seemed it would tangle things up between Dana and I. My design used the same general idea as my Pocket Rocket build: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9816&highlight= I still have a ...

Re: Grey Bell Stancor A-3801 clone by Mercury Magnetics

Sorry, I know this is old... I'm not getting a notice when the new posts come in on a thread. Anyway, but it did spark a thought when I caught up with it. The Heyboer I like best is what they called "The Vintage" series part number HTS-9384 and also has the 11415-2 number associated with it. This wa...

Re: PAYPAL Users Beware

In my case the buyer was an established paypal customer and a friend...however his wife thought something was wrong and snagged up the transaction. Once the PayPal got scrambled, they never could get it sorted out. Mostly because you are not able to talk to a real person and rationally work through ...

(It's just to great to ignore)
yes, that is clever and could lead to some great economics for folks

Re: 6V6 Rocket......why not ?

My first Rockster started out with a pair of vintage 6V6gt's. It sounded good but went over the top to Sonic perfection when I swapped in a set of KT66's. It was like a great sounding Rocket but with more of everything. It was hard to go back to the 6V6's once I heard the big bottles. FWIW - the fro...

They are not bad for the price, but I definitely prefer Heyboer for my Roads packages.

Re: Grey Bell Stancor A-3801 clone by Mercury Magnetics

In units I've had in my hands, the old black Stancor and the grey ones are subtlety different in construction although to my ears they sounded similar. The lams and endbells appear a bit different although I don't have enough statistics to really a strong case for anything but the few units I've had...

Re: Grey Bell Stancor A-3801 clone by Mercury Magnetics

Interesting... I have notes from Pacific that basically indicate their Wreck Express tranny is basically a clone of an old Stancor. With the modern production trannies I've got from Pacific they all seem to have a distinct and consistent sound to them. When I had Mercury Mag clone my old Grey Bell S...

Re: 2xel84 rocket

I have a schematic I drew up... I think it's a good schematic although I can't find any build pictures to go with it so that usually means I built the amp then created the schematic after the fact. Consider it as a good starting place but lets have folks take a look at it and see if it holds up as i...

Re: Head Cab in the vein of Originals

Nice looking cabs... It seems that the original TrainWrecks used a bit more of a plain cherry in the cabinets but as time progressed the cabinetry and woodwork sorta advanced.
