Re: Album recorded with my Liverpool is close to done!

plague- clip sounds awesome. the liverpool is my new favorite amp. i've got it paired up with a 78 LP custom- it doesn't get much better than a paul through a liverpool does it? Also- +1 on the Black Keys- really nice plexi tones all over the new record. BTW- JG Funk #49 has been my amp test riff fo...

5751!

Hey everybody- I just wanted to share my experience with a 5751 in V1 of my express and liverpool. It is awesome! I have reads many posts about taming the gain with the TW amps and I have tried many of the suggestions about cap and resistor value changes (probably almost all of them :D )The 5751 rea...

Re: liverpool done but need some help

hello everyone- just an update on my newly birthed liverpool. i have to say that this amp is what i've been looking for for over 20 years now. the tone just blows my mind :D !! I changed C8/R7 to .0047 and 47K and that did the trick. i have the NFB tapped to 8 ohms, and I have 47pf/82K at C12/R15 on...

Re: liverpool done but need some help

thanks guys- i already have 150K at R7 as this value in addition to the 33K grid stopper worked wonders with the express. 150K seemed to give me a nice fat bottom end. You (Fowler) suggest removing the 33K grid stopper? I could try it. Another thing I noticed is that over a week or so the express se...

Re: liverpool done but need some help

fishy- i think you may be on to something with that 10k cathode resistor to V2. i am at work now so i can't check anything until the morning. i wasn't aware that the express voltages would apply to the liverpool's preamp section, so i will use those as a guide. thanks again for everyone's input :) MP

Re: liverpool done but need some help

dartanion- thanks for any input, really! i was wondering about this wiring configuration myself because the express bright switch is wired differently. you can't see it from the angle of the picture, but there is clearance between the cap leads and the ground lug of the volume pot. i was thinking i ...

Re: liverpool done but need some help

Mark- I had actually found that particular voltage list via the search function, so i knew i was in the ballpark- about 10-15 volt above those readings. from your calculations, the only one off now is V2 pin 3- i am significantly low at 45VDC. i can't picture how this would affect the signal amplifi...

Re: liverpool done but need some help

mark- I looked at/reflowed the solder joint at the ground of C7/R5- didn't help. The ground buss appears to be good- I even sandpapered the buss and the back of the pots when I put it together to create better contact. I checked the cathodes of V1 and i got 1 volt and 1.5 volts respectively, so they...

liverpool done but need some help

hey guys- i just finished a brand new liverpool today. it fired up wonderfully following the express build guide with bulb limiter and everything except for letting a little smoke out the first power up. My heater wires had shorted to each other, but I couldn't see it. Needless to say, smoke in abou...

Re: Planning TW build! Are Allyn and Dana still selling parts?

in response to paulster- Is it actually documented anywhere that this happened, or is this some of the Dumble-style internet mythology that pervades around Ken Fischer? It seems far better documented that you put your name on the list for an amp, and at some point got a call to say your amp was read...

Re: Planning TW build! Are Allyn and Dana still selling parts?

I actually haven't recorded anything yet because i am still tweaking to get the best sound. however, like you, I was absolutely blown away by glen kuykendall's tone on the youtube clip, but i have discovered that there must be many more factors at play besides just the amp. firstly, from what i have...

Re: Planning TW build! Are Allyn and Dana still selling parts?

yes he sells prepunched chassis, but you do need to drill holes for the circuit boards for mounting, and also enlarge the power cord opening for the strain relief or IEC plug if you use that. i used a rat-tail file for that, and drill bits appropriate for drilling aluminum and the circuit board mate...

Re: Planning TW build! Are Allyn and Dana still selling parts?

+1 for allynmey (amp builders parts for chassis), rj guitars (liverpool board), moose at toneslut (transformers), and turretboards.com (express board). everyone associated with this site has been extremely cool to deal with, ships promptly, and has top notch product. i just finished my first express...
