Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

The same effect is found in flute playing circles. (yes I play flute, no I'm not gay..) Solid gold and silver flutes are perceived to be better sounding when players can see them, but in blind tests flutes of the same construction method (pearl concert series for example) cannot be consistently diff...

He wouldn't be dead if it was a knife fight. It's not as easy as you think to kill with a knife, humans are tougher than most realize. I hope none of you fellas have to find out the hard way. Oh, and by the way, socialism isn't so bad, we have had it in OZ since 1948. Don't be offended, just open mi...

LOL

Hey you can count on me for the low brow comment, if that's what you meant Cliff!? :D .

Your research sounds pretty intense, pardon the pun. I love studies on consciousness and the like.

Re: Recording with a Nicon Coolpix

http://www.cranbournemusic.com.au/cstore/930013008948.html The one place I don't think digital is making the world a harder place to be; recording equipment! Seriously, I spent $750 in the early 90's for a second hand four track and now you can get stuff like these zooms for $150 bucks. The value is...

Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

I think hybrid is the way to go if convenience is the governing factor . My Vox Tonelab LE uses the 2 sides of a single 12ax7 to replicate the preamp and power amps of various amp models. It can sound like a tube amp because in some limited sense is a tube amp. BUT, it is limited to 24 bit 48khz pro...

Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

Regardless of the sound, lets face it, there is no single definition of good tone, (I mean Buddy Guy's 1970 ice pick tone on a 335 remains a fav for me), it's still all about the performance. If the connection with the equipment is in anyway stilted, like Tom pointed out, then the tone becomes irrel...

Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?

Bruno designed the Sovtek Mig 50 or 60 i don't remember off the top of my head. The 50 was very fender bassman the 60 was actually a great rock amp. I owned a Mig 50, stupidly traded it for god knows what. it was a real ballsy amp, lots of bass, and had punchy top end like a bassman, I alway though...

Re: Fragile Harmonics - Not so crazy after all? =D

Thing is, these SS modeling devices DO sound damn good in their own right Couldn't agree more Bob, they are distinct sounds even though they may have some tonal signatures of the original. But beyond that they just don't have that 'wild presence' that all that voltage creates. Sort of like the anal...

Re: Going from prototype to production

I had a patient who won a six figure settlement for facial and arm burns because a can of WD40 ignited in her hand. Her gas dryer was squeaking while it ran so she decided to put it out from the wall, reach around back and blindly spray WD40 into the dryer motor area while it was running. The basis...

Re: Tragic news...

If the world needed another definition of tragic, it just got one. I'm glad that in Oz we have very tight gun laws because there are plenty of mentally ill about... The Gov reacted very strongly when we had Australia's worst mass killing (Port Arthur Massacre, 35 dead 21 wounded in 1996, mentally il...
