Re: motor boating on a twin
Have you tried replacing the mica treble caps? Many of the new ones can be leaky.

Re: how to trouble shoot a tremlo problem- Help
Well that's not your typical marshall 18 watt trem circuit. Compare this layout and values of your circuit to this. For one, using all .022 trem caps may make it hard for the trem to start up,if at all. Also the trem in 18 waters is very quirky to lead dress, and depends on what 12AX7 you use in the ...

Re: Edcor service
I went to there site back before christmas, picked out a transformer that met the specs for an amp I was building. Ordered it. Then a few weeks went by, and I called them. I asked when it might be shipped, and they told me end of January, they were all off, then when they come back they would be bus...

Re: 5f2a-ish build
Have you checked the board to see if it is conductive? maybe check from the MV board connection over to the preamp. Check around those eyelets to see if the board is conductive. If you do find a bad spot, you could lift the connection from the board spot, and float that connection off the board.

Re: 5f2a-ish build
try a different preamp tube.. then maybe look at changing any of the carbon comp resistors. Even if they are new, they can sometimes cause the static noises. I'd start with the 100k

Re: Marshall 18 watt. One tube red plating
This might go along with some things that were mentioned. A while back I had an amp here that needed some bugs worked out. And thought it was a good amp to video, and show how lead dress can effect an amp, in how it works,or keeps it from working,or causes noise problems. Or how shielded cable may n...

Re: Marshall 18 watt. One tube red plating
One thing I see, you have the red and blue as the wires going to the tube plates, and the CT being the brown wire. Well, THAT would cause a wee bit of trouble. Gripping my seat waiting to hear if this is the case! That's why I like pics, we could guess all day, and chase your tail trying to fix or ...

Re: Marshall 18 watt. One tube red plating
I don't have the patience to decipher your build topology to check this. Honestly, I'm not surprised and I don't blame you. I did say it was my own layout, and I only posted it because Richie asked. Thanks for your advice though, any help is appreciated. Yes, because sometimes you can see things th...

Re: Marshall 18 watt. One tube red plating
If you swap the EL84s in the sockets, does the red plating stay with the same tube? Or does it make the other tube in that socket replate? When the tube red plates, the amp will start to drop in volume, and sound dull or fuzzy/distorted sounding. Got any pics of the chassis and wiring? Voltage chart...

Re: Pedal Mule 30 - Prototype build
I've tried many BZ7,and tried to like them, but just my opinion, I never liked them. They all seemed to induce noise/hum or were microphonic, and compared to a 12ax7, well, they didn't.
Plus I think if they did, you'd see everyone running to grab them or talking about them more.

Re: 5f6a bassman speakers configuration.
Gibson was doing the different size speakers in one cab many years ago. Some even had oval shaped speakers. One had 4 oval speakers [2 on each side] and a single 12" I'd have to look up the model but it had a control that you could blend in which set of speakers for different sounds. Similar to the ...

Re: 3x10" open back speaker choices ?
Hi , just been kindly offered today a surplus 3x10" open back combo ( a Roland Blues cube 60 which is blowing its speakers. ) Just wondered what opinions were on good speakers to go with my ODS 50W HRM if I run this as an extension cab to my existing 4 x 12 ( which is V30's ) any ideas ? cheers Pet...
