Re: what does the icon mean?

Don’t know what you are seeing at the bottom of the first page but on my computer it has the wiggling icons and the description indicating they are high popularity threads/posts.

Re: VVR Install Problems

I may be all wet but I believe the 2m2 are depicted incorrectly in the schematic in the above post. I recall the 2m2 being in parallel with the 250k pots so as to create a 220k pot to more closely approximate the 220k fixed resistors. I put this type of mv in a friends plexie a while back. I have be...

Re: Critique my amp please

Hey iknowjohnny I just finished moding an amp to match your preamp chain changes. The amp started out life as a plexie with 4 6V6s in the PA. The plexie circuit was good but I wanted more. So I changed it to a JCM 800 preamp chain. That was Ok but never got the tone I wanted and could never resolve ...

Re: Is img turned off?

Hello Matt I am trying to decide how to add reverb to this amp. I really don’t have any space on the front for the reverb control even if I sandwiched another board and tube into the chassis. I am thinking about a small outboard chassis like you would see on tweed style amp reverb retrofits. I have ...

My apologies for my previous post. My mind totally block those PA cathode resistors. That’s the problem some times with the human mind. We get used to certain patterns and project over reality what we have repeatedly seen and want to see and then you end up with egg on your face. I haven’t seen a gu...

Schematic

You have drawn the PA as if were cathode biased. So you are missing the EL34 cathode resistor(s) and bypass cap(s) and their ground connection. If you intended it to be fixed bias you need to remove the ground from the EL34 220k grid resistors and apply the bias voltage there and then you can draw i...

Re: Is img turned off?

I just took some voltage measurements on the amp. A couple things that caught my attention were; 1)The DC voltage on the grid of the last triode. This is because the grid load resistor on this stage is connected to the cathode of the previous stage. 2)Neither stage have bypassed cathodes. I am not a...

Allen Class Act

I wanted to build one of these for sometime. After following this thread and readings Brandon’s comments about the amp I decided to give it a go. It’s made mostly from reclaimed parts from past projects. The chassis is hand made from .082” aluminum. They are the same size as a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe. My b...

Re: Dropping gain w/o affecting tone

My guess that this (the splitting the load) isn't done more often is because, A. Leo or Jim didn't do it so it isn't an option, B. it is in a place where there is a couple hundred dc volts, that makes it a place for failures if relays are used (Leo and Jim didn't have access to the solid state swit...

Re: Dropping gain w/o affecting tone

Komets have a manual fast/gradual switch that switchs between the plated loads. Even better I believe Allyn Meyers has/makes/sells a foot switch controlled solid state switch he installs in his amps that will do just what you want.

Re: Route 66 schematic question

the amp only has the one punch for a dual can cap. so he either uses a 50/50 (one section for plates and one for screens) or uses a 33/33 and parallels it for the plates and sticks the "big" cap (probably a 47uf - 100uf) on the end for the screen section. i've heard some people complain of ghosting...

cap testers

I have been doing tube electronics since 1958 (man I’m getting old) and there was a time when I believed that having an “in circuit cap tester” was the answer to all my problems. What I believe now is that the best thing you can do is like they tell guitar players – “go wood shed”. In this context I...
