Re: newbie querstion: sorry if it's stupid! & tia

I think you will find that Kelly is VERY similar to version a1a. As Stephane points out, Ken would sometimes tweak values for a particular build. Each amp he made probably started out almost the same (if not exactly the same), but was then altered to the customer's taste, and to accomodate any varia...

On this forum in the Trainwrech Files section, you should be able to find pictures of Francesca, and a layout and schematic for Kelly. Unfortunately, they seem to be offline at the moment. Maybe our host will see this and fix that situation soon.

BIas probe plugs on the Climax

The picture of a Kendrick Climax shows a set of bias probe plugs on the back of the chassis. Am I correct that the "red" probe points connect to the cathodes of the power tubes, and the "black" probe point connects to chassis ground? Also, I have seen bias descriptions say that one should use 1 ohm,...

Express Layout vs. Schematic

I am reviewing the diagrams in preperation for my build, and I noticed that the layout shows the fuse connected between the AC line and the switch, and the schematic (Kelly '90) shows the fuse after the switch. Is this significant in any way?

MOV in the Express

I don't quite understand the theory behind the MOV's operation in an Express. If I am reading the schematic (Kelly '90) correctly, it is placed across both sides of the AC line just before the PT. So what does it do when its not blown (is this a no-continuity situation?), and what does it do if a la...

Re: Scumback

I just love the ceramic Blue Dog in my 5e3 cabinet. I am looking forward to hearing what you think with your Express.

Re: Express trannie help needed

Well, then, it looks like I will buying some new trannies afterall. I am defintely more interested in building an Express than a Pool-like amp at this time. But I'll deal with the trannies a little later on, as I get closer to completion. I have some chassis renovation to do, and then the board, and...

Express trannie help needed

My build is going to make use of a salvage chassis and cabinet, and possibly salvage iron, all from a Univox U1086. The power trannie specs are: High voltage : 250V-0-250V @ 400mA Heaters : (two taps) 6V @ 4A and 6V @ 2A Bias supply : 50V @ 100mA (I am assuming that I would ignore the bias supply ta...

New guy just getting started

I am new here, and new to TW's. I have built a few other amps though (5e3, 5f2a, P1, Spifire), so I would describe myself as an informed hobbiest (certainly not an experienced tech). I have lots of elementary questions. Any help would be appreciated. 1. I noticed that the TW's don't have a 68k input...
