Re: 1972 Fender Bandmaster Reverb AA270 TFL 5005D
I had a Bandmaster Reverb as a kid, long before I knew the difference between a vacuum tube and toilet paper tube. I hated the amp. It always seemed anemic to me. Now, I wish I had it back so that I could CHANGE THE DAMN WORN OUT TUBES! I bet it would have sounded great if properly cared for. Yours ...

Re: JM Build
I say post them. If we can post Ken's amps, we surely should be able to post JM's amps.

Re: Best Guitar Cable
I've been enjoying the braided cables that Reverb.com sells. They are cheap, and seem very reliable. I am not big on the mojo factor of high end cables, so if thats your thing, look elsewhere.

Re: Advice on thinning the herd
I'll ad one more thing. A friend of mine typically builds cosmetic (as well as electronic) clones. He never has trouble selling his gear. He doesn't lie at all, always open about the fact that it is a replica. But people like things that look like what they claim to be. Like you, I have built with d...

Re: Advice on thinning the herd
Phil - I feel your pain. First off, when my cousin passed, I had the job of selling off his gear to benefit his wife. It took me 3 years to move all of his guitars and amps via CL (I wasn't willing to ship anything). It was a huge pain in the ass, and that was regular commercially made gear. Now I a...

Re: Touch-Sensitivity: Myth or Reality?
My comment about Tweed-ish had to do with the way the power supplies tend to be under powered, resulting in slower response / recovery. This can be heard in the form of mushy bass notes, softened pick attack, high degrees of compression, and other audible effects. This is somewhat the exact opposite...

Re: Touch-Sensitivity: Myth or Reality?
Words matter, and guitarists don't just BS, they also misuse words. So, always start with a definition. I've heard "touch sensitivity" used to refer to how how well an amp can clean up with your playing dynamics, but I have also heard it used to refer to how easily an amp will break into infinite su...

Re: VVR3 - Hall Amplification -where can I buy a kitor PCB
We shouldn't be passing around Dana's schems unless he gives the go ahead. And, odds are, if he did that, he'd provide it himself

Re: VVR3 - Hall Amplification -where can I buy a kitor PCB
I assume that what Dana meant is that the parts were too expensive for a business venture, and I can certainly see that. Especially with the support that you would inevitably end up providing (even if you tell everyone there is no support). But, if you build a VVR yourself, it is certainly wouldn't ...

Re: AB165 AA864 Hybrid
In my 864 copy, I did some things.... 1. Bass channel only 2. Added bright switch 3. Changed the deep switch - switches between 25uF and 1uF cathode cap for first triode. (I didn't have a .68uF on hand) 4. Pre phase inverter MV. Simple and very effective. 5. Non-switchable bright cap on MV. Plenty o...

Re: Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane Dies
I am a huge Airplane fan, and always have been. I was just a little too young to have seen them live in their heyday, but I did get to see Hot Tuna many times in the 70's, Starship during that first Blows Against the Empire tour, and finally, I saw the Airplane when they reformed for that mediocre a...

I am big fan of transparent speakers with a Rocket. I use a 2x12 loaded with an EVM 12L and a JBL K-120. Killer sounding.

Re: Blizzard
I live in a townhouse community. Small attached town homes in courts. A total of 203 units. We are not a condo so we have no services per se. The city plows our court, but they always do an awful job of it and generally only remove the top layer of the snow, and then bury the cars that are parked in...

Re: Blizzard
As compared with working (which I have so little patience for these days), I am almost looking forward to the shoveling. Wait a minute. What did I just say? No, I take that back. I am looking forward to the 20-something year old coming to my door in the afternoon tomorrow and asking for $100. Everyb...
