I briefly looked at the pics at some point of the day ...didn't look exactly like "area 52" secrets revealed, but to each its own.
Just a ODS clone not that different than someone around here would build.

Had HAD style resistors though

Re: LED pilot light

Wont the rectifier also drop voltage? Since we're in the single digits for voltage i would assume the rectifier drop to be enough to not be ignored? If the rectifier diode is across the LED it's not a factor. If you put it in series with the LED and CLR then you would factor in the .7v diode drop. ...

Are op-amps the way to go for best sound compared to tubes cost and complexity wise?

Re: Pentode Bass control

Anyway, Chris, I am glad to hear you had success and my SWAG of a 1M pot hit the mark. Any additional writeup for it? Impressions? A report for future generations of TAGsearchers? SWAG lol I like that one! Probably won't be at least a 6 months before I actually build an amp with this circuit. Lots ...

Re: Pentode Bass control

And also very small in actual capacitance

They are used in RF equipment where you can get away with the tiny capacitance since the frequency is so high.

Re: Pentode Bass control

So based on my design a 1nF cap off the plate will give me a cutoff frequency of ~200Hz. A 100nF cap will provide a full frequency response all the way down to ~5Hz. Now on the breadboard I set the 1nF cap in parallel with a 1M(B) pot in series with the 100nF cap. I can tune in 1.1nF to 101nF. So th...

Re: bypass cap cathode bias 6L6

Bypass caps on the output tubes cathodes are not like preamp ones. The cap is there not to increase gain but rather to stabilize the cathode and it's NFB affect.

Re: Pentode Bass control

Right, just words and pictures. (Edit: pictures as both gut shots, gut shots of clones, and a layout) It's a cap of a smaller value that's always in the circuit. If you need a starting point, take a small value from the matchless 6 cap design. in parallel with another thing. This other thing is a l...

Re: Pentode Bass control

Before the Dongbiter was a thing, a very similar circuit specifically for pentodes floated around the less popular corners of the DIY guitar amp world. If you think of it like a variable-bass-bypass coupling cap, you can see both the simplicity and the effectiveness of it. It works a lot like the r...

I might as well ask a question too lol

Regarding the return level control...
You could put it before the recovery stage or after it. What are the pros and cons of both?

Pentode Bass control

Anyone have a good circuit for a bass control coming off of a pentode's plate?

The pentode has a high output impedance so that is the big consideration...

Thanks

Re: Clubman build

1. Yes it is oversized. To calculate the 3dB rolloff frequency use fc = 1/(2*pi*R*C) where R is the output impedance of the PI + the input impedance of the output tubes (220K) in your case. A 10nF-22nF would probably make more sense. Same can be said to the other 100nF cap used for decoupling. Too b...

Re: Choke for Expresse and Rectifier tube ?

I have an experimental testing version of an Express that I built with both the Express and Rocket power supplies and I can switch back and forth between the two of them in real time. The Rocket uses the 260-0-260V secondary tap along with the tube rectifier and 15 Henry choke. I also have an analo...
