Express preamp for bass guitar?

Hell Yeah!!! For the last few days I've been messing around with my new 2x7189 express/liverpool. It seems to be calming down a bit and not misbehaving so much (or I may just be going deaf, and getting better with the amp). So far, I've been having a blast just playing with the distortion and feedba...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

Yep, I had to pot the pickups in any of my guitars I use with my Wrecks. Even pickups that were "factory potted" had to be done again with a more thorough dipping. Two cords (or 40' of wire) helps though, as that takes a little top off right there. That's something to think about. If you don't mind...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

That Avatar cab and combo of speakers will be a better match for that amp. V30s can sound good with a dark amp, but with anything bright, it'll accentuate the brutal upper mids and highs of the V30. I've been wearing ear plugs...with the volume at 1 oclock my strat will randomly oscillate/feedback ...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

Hey guys thanks for the comments. I'm not a fan of V30's. But I didn't know that when I built the cabinet. I had heard them in a TopHat and thought it was wonderful. I still like TopHats. I'm looking at an Avatar 4x12...2 Greenbacks and 2 G12-H30's. Also... I have previously, but do not currently, p...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

And a followup on the amp. Still love it. It (the amp chassis) was making some funky noises (LOUD buzzing) when I played certain notes. Moved the amp off the cabinet and the noises went away. The amp will start breaking up around 1. There is a big volume jump right off idle, but JUST past that...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

Yep, anyone that's heard my "Can You Hear It Ring?" CD that is a 40' cord. I measured it and it is 3400pf! These days I really like the Mogami's (wire pt. # 2524) which are about 700pf per 20' cord so two in series adds up to 1400pf. I've tried a short cord and a small cap to net the same capacitan...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

Well Mat, I'm certainly glad you're mind is blown. These amps do that. They kind of change your perspective about what makes great tone. And it's not just a lead machine. Like you said, full chords don't muddy up. Like Dartanion said, play with everything though! The amp will just slide into a groo...

Re: It's here!!! It's Fantastic!!!

Sorry Mat, my bad. If you ever use a guitar that sounds muddy, try some EL84s in place of the Ruskies Military units. It'll brighten right up and add chime. I don't think I like "chime"... :? Every amp that has been described as "chimey" (vox,) has generally sounded like azz to me. I prefer a darke...

And OMG I love it!!! I've always been a big single channel fan. Never much cared for amps with channel switching. The best amp for me, so far, has been a Fender '58 RI Bassman. These amps have a great clean...and they'll get loud while maintaining clarity. I have generally favored stompboxes to get ...
