Just wondering if you figured out what the extra resistors were?

Re: Two-Channel Matchless, Spitfire + Lightning?
Should be fine. I have been toying with the idea of converting my Lightning clone into a similar design with a single triode for the Spitfire side and a single triode for the Lightning V1 as I want to keep the tube count the same.

Re: Brand New Spitfire
... Matchlesses don't play well with many speakers. The first thing everyone says plugging into a matchless, real or clone, is, "Bright!". I'm sure Samson, Perrotta, Jamison were/are well aware. My experience with my Lightning clone is trying to tame the brightness in the circuit takes some of the ...

Here's a schematic of what I ended up with:telentubes wrote:Hey Gee,
Can you tell me how you made the mod you described on your Spitfire. That might be a good way to go as well.
Thanks

Re: Brand New Spitfire
The bright cap on the volume can make the Spitfire very bright. It's an ideal place to put a switch to switch it in and out. I removed the tone control on my clone and replaced it with a cut control which I prefer as it removes just the treble and can be adjusted to trim out what you don't want to h...

One more thing is that the X10 is now shipping with a 12au7 in the V2 position. Wonder why?

Re: Great Tweed Tone
Very interesting.
Some differences I noticed are the lower PT voltage, smaller coupling caps and unusual but lower value vol and tone pots and a 12AX7 in the first stage. IMO All good modifications except for the tone vol pots which may or may not change the tone.

OT choice for Matchless/Vox 15 watt deigns
I have built a couple of Vox derived designs such as a Spitfire and a Lightning using generic 18 watt OT's. Having played about with the reflected impedance of the OT using a 16k tap with an 8 ohm speaker, I found that I prefer the normal 8k tap with 8 ohm speaker. However, I'm wondering if using a ...

Re: Magazines!
Guitarist is an SOS publication from UK, and it's very pretty with lots of nice gear p0rn photos, but no photos at all of the insides of the amps they review (-10 points!). Contains a small section of lessons, heavy on gear reviews, balanced with artist profiles. $16/issue in the US. Comes with CDR...

If you possibly could I would very much appreciate it.ChrisM wrote:Gee if your interested I can draw up a schem. All I have now is a half ripped piece of paper with scribbles. Pretty simple though, 3PDT switch and a few components.

Re: 15W DC30/Rocket Type Amp
Very impressive build and some creative ideas in there too.
Do you have a schematic of how you implemented the parallel/cascade switch? I'm keen to do something similar in my Spitfire clone.

Re: Preamp Cathode Resistor values, AB763 - 12AX7
What would happen tonally and theoretically if I jumped that cathode resistor value up to 2.7k or 3.3k. - note: I would be keeping those bypass caps on both triodes somewhere between 10uf and 22uf I have seen various boutique blackface esque amps use 2.7k - 3.3k values for the cathodes. Re: z original prescription schematic or info
And the first 2 caps on left need joining at the +ve end and a ground connection at the -ve end. Actually other photos show a single 40uF for the first cap.
