I am not familiar with this amp,but what is the 150K and 1200pF doing across the PA grids? Is that a fixed attenuator and top cut?
NB Also there is a ground missing off the first pair of caps on the left.

Re: Anyone wanna build a mazerati V1 Details inside
I had a quick look at your photos and it doesn't look like a Maz GT to me. Looks more like a modified Carmen Ghia with 4 EL84's.

Re: Bassman 6G6 pre amp questions
Well this model was an unusual departure which seems odd with hind sight that he moved away from the 5F6-A architecture in ths bass channel.

Bassman 6G6 pre amp questions
Anyone know why the bass channel on the 6G6-A bassman was changed from the 5F6-A? It is an unusual layout using a 220k plate fed first triode followed by a CF, then TS without treble, then 2 more triode stages followed by treble. This seems like a big departure for Leo.

Re: Spitfire/5E3
Very nice looking build. That tag board has the perfect proportions. I have also just converted my 5E3 into a Spitfire type build. I initially thought about building a Windchime/Tweed Atlas but started by just wiring up the PI as a Vox LTP. That changed into a more familiar Fender LTP (.01uf/.1uF/22...

Re: What's the goal of small coupling caps
1. In this stage we have a 500pF coupling cap in series with a 100pF bright cap. In this case, I'm assuming the overall capacitance is measured as with any capacitors in series (1/C1 + 1/C2 = 1/Ctotal), giving us 83pF. Is that correct, or does that fact that C2 is bypassing a resistance have an eff...

Is that a guess or information based on some other source?Darkbluemurder wrote:It is basically a Mazerati GT with only 2 output tubes - gain stage - volume - gain stage - drive - long tail PI - 2 cathode biased EL84 - no NFB. The Drive control is a variable resistor to ground.

Re: VVR in a "beefed up" 5E3 Tweed Deluxe (FINISHED)
VVR works well in a 5E3 Deluxe when you scale the whole amp. It is difficult and requires an MV if you scale just the PA.

Re: Lightning low power switch
I can't say enough good things about installing a VVR. I have a Lightning/TH Royale and also a Spitfire clone both with VVR and it works very well. In my experience if 15W upsets your neighbours (as it does my neighbours) then 7.5W or 5W will also be too loud. I would buy a kit from Dana without hes...

Very cool Tophat video - Greg V
There is a neat video here that has some quite detailed shots of the Club "Super Fat" Deluxe circuit. The Fat/Off/Brite circuit can be clearly seen. Looks more like a Fat/Not Fat/Less Fat switch. It is easy to buy into what the front panel switch shows but encourageing to really see what is under th...

Good update. One of the neat things about these circuits are the many ways that you can tailor the amount of gain you want.

Re: Matchless Lightning build
Andy I can't see the difference if I go with 4k and have to change impedence or stay with the 8k at 4 or 8 ohm. The turns ratio is the same depending on the impedence load right? On my Spitfire and Lightning/Royale builds I switch my 8ohm speaker to the 16ohm setting to get the 4K primary. However,...

Re: Top Hat Royale
1. The coupling cap off V1 is a 1000pf. I tried 1000pF and found it a bit bassy for some things. I have just fitted a 3 way switch to have 560pF, 500+560pF or 1000+560pF as a kind of contour switch to see how it sounds. 2. The gain control is a 500kA, no bright switch. The amp is bright enough to m...

Top Hat Royale
I used the 2 available schematics on SH for the Club Deluxe to build what I think is close to a Club Royale. I modified one of those schematics to show the EL84's and also the missing Cut control component values. It turned out very well. More Marshall that Vox but more versatile that a straight 18W...
