Re: Pick Punch
Haha, my mother got me one of these for X-mas this year, she was super proud of herself for this one! My wife's father and i spend most of January trying to get 7 usable pics out of 1 credit card, it's not an easy task! Needless to say, I've got 100's of plastic pics now, made of everything from vac...

Re: AC * 1.4 = DC ???
I feel your pain, I've built 4 express amps so far, all of them with Pacific iron. 120V measured at the wall, 600V measured across the secondaries. My first one was the traditional stack-o-caps layout, the last 3 were multi-caps with the last 2 using a VVR. I have had lower than expected voltages on...

Re: Cutting circuit board
I think blade choice is as important as any method mentioned above. A carbide blade does you no good if its the wrong type of blade! High tooth count is your friend when cutting circuit board material! Use a metal Cutting blade in a jig saw. I've found using a 7 1/4" blade for plywood is the cheapes...

Re: Cabs wood types??Whats most liked?
I'm not a huge fan of colorful wood cabinets, love the look of figured cherry and flamed maple, maybe with a dark color sanded out to give the grain more depth, otherwise just a clear finish. Love the cab you did for Paul-in-KC! I usually don't like when the valence is a different color either, but ...

Re: PCB w/turrets
This is a great example... http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16768&highlight=pcb+turret I just wish I had time to learn pcb layout software / build libraries etc. There seems to be a cool software program "Target 3000" that may do some cool pcb layout stuff, besides the "free" version is p...

PCB w/turrets
A while back someone posted a gut-shot of an amp that used a PCB with turrets, anyone remember/know who's that was? Seems like an interesting idea, and my creative juices are flowing after seeing RJ's (and Dana's) first run at a PCB Express, plus Martin Manning's different layout. I feel like a PCB ...

That's a great build Martin! Super clean layout, easy to work on, easy to trace leads, I really want to try something like this now! Huge fan of the tube cut outs by the way, great job!

Re: Need troubleshooting help - 2nd build. mini wreck 4-4-0
Will the articificial CT make the heaters get some voltage? No, just reduce "hum", should still have around 6.3V when measuring between the 2 green heater wires... There is nothing even at the green wires right out of the PT Try disconnecting the green heater wires and measuring them, if you have v...

Re: Need troubleshooting help - 2nd build. mini wreck 4-4-0
Are your heaters wired properly? It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks to me as though you have it mixed up and are sending one leg to the pilot lamp and the other leg to the heaters. That would show no potential across the heaters when measured with a DMM. Do you have the proper voltage ...
