Re: help with a home built amp
Turret board looks like a Hoffman board. All those 9 pin tube sockets suggests an AC30 style build. I think the 12AX7s are plugged into output sockets. Need to see how the group of four tubes are wired(should be output section if my assumptions are correct). I am not particularly impressed with wher...

Look at what has been done in the past
I am totally in favor of all the mathematical and theoretical issues/approaches discussed in this thread but the first thing that comes to mind is; The Rocket uses a VOX style PI and this is used in many Matchless models to drive various output configurations using the VOX circuit values. Also you w...

I am sure there are a ton of guys wanting to build this amp and would like to know if the schematic is accurate and if you resolved your issues.

Re: Komet 19 like build
Have you confirmed that the info you obtained about this being the Komet circuit is accurate? I am not familiar with that Phase Inverter circuit but it looks like it could add a lot of dirt. The first thing I would try is lowering the 470k grid resistors on the EL84s. Tack a 470k parallel with each ...

The world/internet is a magical place full of people just waiting to be offended by something. Sorry If their are a bunch of ingrates concerned about your saftey/well being. By the way I believe the device known as a Variac is in fact wired as an autotransformer and has zero isolation properties. Pl...

Re: My take on an SSS
Thanks so much for sharing. I am pleased to see that you didn't let your last experience here run you off. Your work is of a very high level and is a pleasure to see. The short period of time your JM build was up sparked interest in that amp for me and I built one using the one gut shot I was able t...

Re: Amp Chassis Finishes/Colors
I have looked at the pics on the Mojave site and the pic that shows the bottom of the chassis with 9 pin socket is clearly a powder coat finish. I have been using hammertone finishes since the early 1960's and You just cant get that depth and type of veining.

Re: Amp Chassis Finishes/Colors
I cant speak to the functionality with any authority. I think time has proven most aluminum chassis do just fine for the most part. If it was a steel chassis powder coat is durable rust protection choice and much cheaper than chrome. For me the finish speaks more to perception of quality - attention...

Chassis finish
I bought a few 5E3 Chassis from Clark amplification 3 or 4 years ago that had this finish. I would call the color gold on the chassis I had but I think I have seen the finish in a copper tone. This is a powder coat finish and I don't remember what the call the texture - maybe antique veining or some...
