Re: New build, OD needs help

Thx for the replies folks. Yes Martin, the reverb is after the loop. Marcus, I did bypass the reverb, the OD tone doesn't change although the overall volume drops some. 10th, I'll try some coupling cap changes. I don't think I have all the 6PS caps I need but I've found the MPPs to be very good in t...

New build, OD needs help, Solved, clip added

Guys, it's been awhile since I built a D-style amp but I decided to give this a go. I have an amp I built years ago, high plate, no HRM, 2 6V6 output. This amp sounds amazing and I'm trying to duplicate that magic but with reverb. It's squeezed into a Champ chassis in a little head cab. I debated bu...

Re: Full wave bridge rectifier question

It sounds like you would be happy to use the 270-0-270V 200mA, and forego the amenity of switching to different HT voltage levels (as per the schematic posted) ? If so, then just use a full-wave rectifier, instead of a full-bridge rectifier. So far you have indicated 6L6 tubes, so you should be fin...

Here's the schematic. I'm building this for a friend who grabbed this board off eBay. It would've been easier to build from scratch.

Re: Full wave bridge rectifier question

If one were to use a bridge rectifier on a center tapped transformer and simply grounded the center tap what would be the effect? I thought I read in Blencowes book it was a no no but I cant find it in there skimming through again. No no no...that would create a dead short from ground to both a hot...

Great info folks, thx.

Any ideas on a PT for this one?

Full wave bridge rectifier question

I have a project I'm working on and I need a PT. The circuit uses a full wave bridge rectifier and the specs say 285V@.35A. A few questions... 1) That seems like a lot of current for a 2x6L6 amp with 3 12AX7s. I would think more like 120ma 2) It's difficult to locate a PT without a CT. Could I use o...

Re: 59 bassman 5F6A build

I had an original 5F6a from 59. I stayed clean to about 7-8 on the volume with a Strat. I was very difficult to overdrive plus it was not as loud as a super reverb. It sounded glorious though.

Your amp sounds great to my ears. Good job!,

Re: Bluesmaster sounds dull when OD master is above 5, help

I am guessing you are not using a dumblater with your rig? Does your effects processor have input and output level controls - or perhaps a -10bB / +4dB switch? No dumbleator and the processor has a Line/Stomp switch on the loop. I can't locate the actual DB levels of the switch but I'd expect -10 /...

Re: Bluesmaster sounds dull when OD master is above 5, help

I may be barking up the wrong tree. I pulled the bright caps and connected to another cab. Same thing, and on both clean and OD. I run digital effects in the loop from an HD500. I always have and it sounds great. But now I think this is causing the issue. I could be pushing the input of the HD500 to...

Hellatone 60, V30 broken in by Avatar. A tad underrated for this amp.

Re: Bluesmaster sounds dull when OD master is above 5, help

I was wondering if the dulling effect has variable level between the MV setting you usually play, and the MV cranked. That PI should explode when let loose. Can you make an audio clip? Yes, that's exactly what's happening. I have always found the sweet spot on all my D Style amps is with the master...
