7189's sound great in my fixed bias 2 hole Liverpool.
aka EL84M
edit: sorry, reread...I don't have one of the amps listed...I bet 7189's would sound killer in a Rocket, though.

Re: bud chassis
If you take a bag of components (of exceptionally close value) and played each in the amp mentioned above, at similar levels for similar times, would each of the component's reform in the same manner?
If yes, to what may this be attributed?

Re: bud chassis
Most likely the caps and tubes mellow with burn in. Can you quantify what occurs with "mellow"? I think most agree something happens, whether you want to call it "mellowing", "warming", "softening", or "sweetening"... ...should this be attributed to component drift or some other active component va...

That's awesome. Happy New Lap Steel Day!!!
They have some good guitars at great prices too.
Rondo Music has a very large following on harmonycentral too.
Good score.

Volume techniques
What are your favorite ways to adjust volume of the guitar? (besides using the knob) On my LP, I like to set the neck pickup volume low, and the bridge volume pretty high. This way I get a clean/distortion/lead with a flick of the selector switch. Problem is you can't do this on a strat. I'm also lo...

Re: Express preamp for bass guitar?
The Wreck preamp is all wrong for bass as well the power section is designed to sag/swell, and distort. You need a much bigger power supply and design for clean in a bass amp. It would be cool to try it, but it's probably not going to resemble a Wreck when you're through tweaking it. Stock, I would...

Re: Express preamp for bass guitar?
The Express preamp is very basic, so it should work well for bass--but you might want to fatten up some of the coupling cap values. This preamp into a pair of 6550s or KT88s into a bigger OT with more bandwidth (I'm thinking one of the Dynaco style OTs) would probably make for a killer club-size ba...

I'm not poor, but I can't afford a real TW.
ChimeBoss, since you hold sole entitlement to the KF Legacy, why don't YOU make me one?
At a price I can afford.
KTHXBYE

Re: Express preamp for bass guitar?
I'm not your normal bass player. I lean heavily into Primus and experimental guitar influenced bass. Lotsa chords and dirt. Not Cliff Burton Anesthesia distortion, but more tube breakup than a little. Mainly with active pickups (preamps). So I can REALLY drive a circuit hard. Man it's been a busy we...

Re: Express preamp for bass guitar?
Why not stick to the family of output tubes? 2xEL34 (Express) or 4xEL34 (with perhaps a higher plate voltage on the power stage but keeping the classic voltages in the preamp)? Thank you for the reply, The ONLY reason is my affection for 6550 breakup. I used to have an old 70's SVT with 6550's and ...

Re: Express preamp for bass guitar?
I'll try to field this. From my limited knowledge on the express the power amp is biased a little cold so it saturates early because the preamp has a lot of gain. The preamp has a lot of distortion too. If you paired the preamp with a bass amp power section you may get something pretty cool. You'll...
