Fender G-DEC; about $180 to $380, they have 3 models. Eric Johnson uses one, nice sounding amp.

Re: Best low wattage amp?

I've dealt with Radiodaze for several years, great prices, nice people. BUT they recently raised there prices, so for me it is not a given I will go there for a Hammond xfmr when I need one. I was think of using this place; several folks on the Hoffman forum said thay have had good luck. http://www....

Re: What to do about hum?

I just finished an AX84 p1_ex and it had bad hum. After several hours of trying everything under the sun I scraped the ax84 grounding scheme. I then follwed the Hoffman style and the hum went from about a 2 to a .1 on a 1-10 scale. It is now extremely quiet. http://www.el34world.com/charts/grounds.htm

Re: Selling amps on eBay; best practices?

Thanks for all the tips, I still haven't decided for sure. It seems like a great big hassle going through all that trouble. I did find a nice heavy box at the local UPS store, expensive I thought at $20. But it was double walled. I'll have to look for those corner pads, I am getting all kinds of goo...

Better Liverpool power board layout: Twreck or Ceriatone?

Which power board layout is preferred with builders. The Ceriatone layout has put all the parts on one board, which is nice. But it has changed some values. Does that make a big difference in tone or anything? http://www.ceriatone.com/images/layoutPic/tWCloneLayout/LiverpoolCeriatone_221107.jpg http...

Re: Where to buy good looking wood.... in Europe

This may help you, it is geared for the USA but it is an extensive site. The 'BUY and SELL' link in the upper right hand corner may provide info. This is a HUGE site so look around.

Re: Cabinet built, finish suggestions please.

You can probably find the Minwax at any Home Depot or Loews. I have used the Bartleys gel stain but not the Minwax. I like Petri's gel poly. I have used Minwax wipe on poly quite a bit and it is very easy and looks good. The owner of 'Homestead.com' is Jeff Jewett, probably the best known wood refin...

Re: Cabinet built, finish suggestions please.

I agree the article was an approximation of the Sticley finish. I did not want to recommend the use of 26% aqua ammonia to someone who may not be familiar with it, since it is toxic. Besides Stickley's furniture was primarily 'white oak' which has a high tannic acid content that lends itself to fumi...

Re: Cabinet built, finish suggestions please.

Oak can be smoothed out with a wood filler, just more work. I like a Gel Stain on oak, Bartleys does a good job. Then 3 or coats of a Gel Poly will really make it nice. here is a link on some finishing techniques. http://www.homesteadfinishing.com/ Look under articles at the top of the page and he h...

Re: Selling amps on eBay; best practices?

Excellent info, where is a good cheap place to buy packing materials? You mentioned U-Haul for boxes, do they sell bubble wrap too? Great idea on covering the grill with plywood. This may be more of a hassle than it's worth, but i'll give it one shot on ebay. I had no bites on craigslist.

Selling amps on eBay; best practices?

I am considering selling a 5e3 clone I made on Ebay and was wondering about proper shipping. Should I ship the tubes seperaltely or leave them in the amp? Is bubble wrap sufficient for a safe trip via UPS. Any ideas people might have on this subject would be appreciated.
