Close. The difference appears to be the tube type. I am working on the 120 (El-34). I think it is a bass amp. Note the Speakon connectors.Structo wrote:Wow!
That is a beast!
I take it that it is meant for bass guitar?
Is this the same amp?

Re: Boat Anchor
Offensive? It wasn't. Anything not offensive isn't funny anyhow. ;) WTH are those things where the transformers should be?!! heh Wow. Is that thing UL output and have you compared it to a Marshall Major? Even the tube placement makes me think I know about how heavy those are. Its not UL. Got 2k/5w ...

I need a roadie in my shop for moving this one around. Its a George Dennis Bassic Tube 120. I did not weigh it but I swear it is heavier than a Twin Reverb Combo with JBL's - and this is just a head! Its a rugged amp and not hard to work on. Pre-amp sockets are crap and soldered to the board though....

Re: distortion on leading edge of note
I still have not solved this problem! LOL! Problem was not solved by any of the following 1- different OT 2- different PT 3- different choke 4- different 1st and 2nd filter caps 5- b-gger cap for screen supply. 6- increasing 6L6 grid stoppers from 1.5K to 15K 7- cleaning-up the grid wiring to the 6...

Re: I'm giving up on noiseless single coils.
My 2 cents: I have tried Lace Sensor (Blue I think), Kinmans, Duncan Lil'59's. The Lil 59's are not in the same category as they don't do the quack thing, but they are a good choice if you want a fat sound leaning toward Gibson HB territory. I like the Lace better than the Kinman's. I still prefer t...

Re: OT A/B test
It is reasonalbe to assume that you can gain a bit of noise reduction by placing the tranny a certain way in relation to the PT and Choke. Have you done studies on this? This is proven and easily observable. I now perform the "headphone trick" to place PT and OT on the chassis where the PT induces ...

Re: OT A/B test
thanks ive been wanting to do this forever! MM has one of these switchers, but i don't know what they have listened to.. ive done lots of A/B's soldering fast but never this way.. the only thing that is a problem is the positioning of the OT.. did you flip it over when you listened to it and try mo...

Re: Bludotone EL34 HRM
Amp and playing sound great. Brandon's successful use of the polyester caps gives me the courage to try the same. Maybe he will chime in and give his opinion on the tonal difference between the Xicon MPP, the Nichicon Polyester and the Orange PS caps.

Re: OT A/B test
I did another A/B test this morning. I recorded the test but honestly, even listening with headphones the recordings did not pick up the differences between the transformers so I will not be posting them. All test are in OD mode First pass was with Mid boost on and a low drive setting so its breakin...

Re: OT A/B test
the knife switch is basically doing the same thing as standby, just from the outer legs of the primary instead of on the center tap. What I do when selecting a transformer is flip the knife to the middle, then switch the secondary/feedback toggle to the other side, then close the knife switch. You w...

Re: OT A/B test
@roknroll I have the same thought. My son plays drums and the kit is in the same room I do my builds/repairs in. There is a world of difference in playing by yourself and having the drums (and bass on occasion) mixed in. I expect that tiny extra high end the MC has will be missed when I go against t...

OT A/B test
I Use Mercury Mag transformers in some of my builds and while the amps do sound the way I want them to, I have never fully bought into the hype that they are any better than some other popular transformers out there. So, I decided to check it out for myself using a simple A/B test rig. The reason fo...

on switch for Champ at Mouser?
I know CE carries these but does Mouser? I have to order something else from them and would love to save 6$ on shipping by getting the switch there too. This is the standard Fender slide switch used on bright, power, etc.
