Re: Debugging Noise on a Home-Made Amp

Strange that the wall voltage is that high.

My power is usually right around 120-122vac.

Maybe hydro power is more consistent?

But yeah, if the heater voltage is higher than 7 volts, you are going to
lose some tubes.

Here is a great little book about the life of tubes.

Re: Weather and Other Anomalies

I can remember distinctly a teacher telling us in grade school that we were heading into another ice age. What I believe is we should take care of our planet. But, I think there are weather cycles within cycles that happen all the time. Maybe it will get colder, maybe it will get hotter. Weather is ...

You will find your camera with your missing socks.

Maybe they are with my missing prescription sunglasses that I paid 200+ for. :P

Re: From Tesla to Black Holes

Interesting that Einstein's Gravitational Wave theory is now a fact.

It's funny because I am reading a fictional novel that talks about that.
It was written several years ago.

In my limited mind, I think cold fusion or similar will be the breakthrough we need for cheaper power.

Re: Musicaps in a Dumble style build?

A lot of that is picking technique with the Dumble amps.

That chirp, is something that Robben does well.

I would love to sound like Robben but I sound like me, although I've studied his playing.

I still can't figure out how he makes his Tele sound like that.

Re: new dumble build in bassman head chassis

I don't recall if you have a Dumbleator? That is a great addition to the ODS, since you can have your preamp volume up around noon or more. And the Master volume can also be up around 1:00-2:00 then the overall volume is controlled with the Dumbleator output pot. This way you can get the amp cooking...

Re: From Tesla to Black Holes

I can't seem to find the BMW hydrogen generator but here is the Honda one.

I believe in the original ad that I saw, said it could also power your house.

Big oil is not going to like that one bit.

Re: Bass Thump: EL84 v. 6L6

IMHO, I don't like the EL84 in higher power amps.

I have an amp that has 4x EL84's and although it sounds nice, I prefer the 6L6 or EL34.

Bigger, bassier and more punch.

I do like some 18 watt derivatives, they can sound great.

But, I guess I favor the Octals.

Re: Musicaps in a Dumble style build?

IMHO, I think if you have a very clean amp, that some of these newer exotic caps may indeed sound good. Like I said before, I have a couple guitars or more that have the Hovland caps in their tone circuit. And I like them. But, when we are dealing with an amp like the Dumble ODS amps, I think it is ...

Re: From Tesla to Black Holes

How about a personal fuel cell. A few years back I believe BMW as well as Honda were developing Hydrogen fuel cells that could not only provide fuel for the car but power the whole house! Units looked about the size of a large freezer, like you would keep in the garage. Haven't seen anything at all ...

Re: New Build started. Guitar and amp (Now with sound clips!)

I meant to say you should put masking tape where you want your grounds to be to prevent the problem of grinding that powder coat away.
Or the tube socket mounting holes as well.

That stuff is tough!

Re: From Tesla to Black Holes

We all live with the expectation of another day after today. How quickly that could evaporate in an instant due to a cataclysmic disaster. Be it an asteroid or some other catastrophe that affects the whole world. I liked the quote by President Ronald Reagan when he said, "“Perhaps we need some outsi...
