Re: Possible help with OT data

I'm under the impression none of the folks reading this thread actually have the data you require. Everybody worth a hoot are quick to come to the aid of even the most outrageous request. that's very true :) which is why i love this forum to death! practically everything i know about tube amps was ...

Re: Need OT specs for 5F6A Bassman

i totally feel your pain... i wanted to get output transformers wound from a local manufacturer who was famous for his trannies back in the heyday of tube radios. spoke to him for about half an hour trying to convince him to build me 5 OTs... but he said he simply couldn't do it cause he doesn't hav...

Re: Variation on a Wreck theme! Purists will scream!

would the balance pot work as shown (biasing unmatched tubes)? there will be a separate pot for dialing in the right -ve voltage on the power supply board. getting matched tubes here is a pain as well so i feel the need to improvise. i'm also worried that the value may be a bit too high, or that per...

Re: Variation on a Wreck theme! Purists will scream!

yep, spotted correctly - i lifted the cathodyne PI verbatim from the valve wizard pages and figured this little detail couldn't hurt... i've never done a cathodyne PI before, something tells me the plate and cathode resistors might be a bit off for 12AT7 or 5751. might have to redimension that... an...

Re: Making holes in foam rubber for tube storage?

i use large plastic food cartons. i usually box up as much as i can, but the tubes in the cartons see practically no movement once they're in there. those are the tubes i have no immediate use for. a heated wire, perhaps wrapped around/attached to a soldering iron, should do the trick though. exerci...

Re: Need OT specs for 5F6A Bassman

from : http://www.300guitars.com/2009/09/fender-5f6-a-4x10-bassman-the-perfect-amp-for-guitar/ "Let’s take a look at the output transformer. This was a costly and unique design for a guitar amplifier back in the 1950s. First of all it has a 2 ohm secondary which is an unusual output impedance. Why d...

Variation on a Wreck theme! Purists will scream!

ok maybe not, but i hope that got your attention anyway... :D Thanks to my little junkyard build - http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=64950&highlight=#64950 - working out so well, i HAD to expand on the idea a bit. with the success of the junkie mutt and its 6sj7 preamp, i'm pretty much set ...

Re: Need OT specs for 5F6A Bassman

another somewhat related question - is it possible to use 6L6GCs in push-pull at LESS than 25W? 275-0-275 200mA secondaries on the PT. 8k CT on the OT. i would like to do a 5B6 bassman before i move on to the 5F6A and other 50W circuits... i would basically want to scale down the power stage to take...

Re: Need OT specs for 5F6A Bassman

i'd be interested in this too; i live in india, and between the exchange rate, freight and the customs (both the duties as well as the red tape you have to g through) make importing from the US a no-no. i'm assuming we're looking at about 8k CT 50W or thereabouts? i really want to do a 5F6A sometime...

Re: Mallory 150's, white vs yellow?

i have no access to mallorys, orange drops, audio note, jensen et al here and the latter set are simply way too expensive for me. when i was in germany i picked up a ton of coupling caps very cheap. mostly ERO FKP, KP and some WIMA KPs and MKPs too. so far, they sound pretty good to my ears. i don't...

Re: New Circuit, New Build, New Questions...

thanks andy! iknowjohnny, take a look at the schematic... it's not the mid cap :) i wired the treble cap to a DPDT so that it can switch two 470pF caps in parallel or in series. this has a pronounced effect, most noticeable in the quasi-djent areas of the cascade mode... from my simulations in TSC i...

a BIG thank you to all you lovely people on this forum - without your input, this amp would definitely have not been possible. it's a crazy little beast now. shipped off to the buyer who is currently speaker-less and cannot use it at the moment... but wll be heading for a project to the states and p...

Re: New Circuit, New Build, New Questions...

hello all, did the resistor drop method using one 220 ohm 2W metal oxide resistor on each leg of the filament windings - works like a charm. also wired in a pentode/triode switch for the power stage. swapped out the entire power supply PCB for a free-wired PSU. also changed the master volume pot sin...
