Re: Speaker Cab for the Express

Ron, this is one area where i will be departing from the formula, so not sure if this will be helpful have you considered other cab options??? If funds are tight after the amp build and you want decent cab consider building a 2X12 detuned Cab. This is one of Kevin O'Connors ideas for cab building. ...

Re: Is a TrainWreck Out of Phase?

I had a thought.

What if you reverse the guitar chord? Have a little stompbox that switches the phase of the guitar signal.

Or does it need to be at the speaker level?

Re: Red plating a KT-66

if its just one tube replating.. try swapping the tubes in the sockets.. see if the problem stays with the same socket..or if the tube red plates in the other socket.. You probably just have a bad tube.,at least thats one other thing to check. Yeah, swapping them is one thing I thought of, but this...

Re: Is a TrainWreck Out of Phase?

I've seen several threads on this in other forums, and I can see how this would matter. It would effect the attack, the initial movement of the cone, and being in/out of phase with other instruments. From a guitar standpoint, I've been told it can drastically effect feedback and sustain. It's not d...

Re: Express Hum (60 or 120 cycle?) Help needed

I did everything you did except the 15k resistor with good results. Can you tell me what impact the 15k had? Is it worth opening the amp back up to try? Well others have put in 33k resistors to stop microphonics in V1 and RF coming in. 33k is standard on marshalls and many other circuits. I believe...

Re: Is a TrainWreck Out of Phase?

Well I do know working from experience that phase in bass amps is important.

You want to be "in phase" with the bass drum.

Re: Is this real? (link added. Duh?)

It could also be one of those Chinese copies. They relic'd it up and threw a bigsby on it. Looking for someone to take a bit. Worth a look though. If you've had any experience with real Gibson's you'll know a fake. The ratios are all off. I really couldn't tell from that picture. It looks like it wa...

Re: Express Hum (60 or 120 cycle?) Help needed

I too put in a hum balance pot this weekend. Helped to drop noise just that much more.

With a bottom plate, good tubes, shielded V1B grid wire and a 15k resistor directly on the V1A grid my amps noise is now almost non exsistent till the master is over 3/4.

Re: What are the No Compromise (obtainable) parts for Express

Another option for EL34's are the Groove Tube EL-34M Mullard Reissues. Glen uses them and I just put a pair in my clone. They sound really great for the money (I got a set for $30 from CE dist). Though some people have had problems with them my set was perfectly matched and very robust. Almost no me...

Re: Is this real? (link added. Duh?)

Either it was stolen and they are trying to get rid of it, someones in real trouble and needs quick money, or they want to mug you when you show up with the 5k.

Take a gun.

It is all Glens fault!

It it wasn't for him I wouldn't have even known what a Trainwreck was!

$1000 is a good low ball estimate for buying all the stuff.

Thanks!

I have to put the props out to Jeff Swanson for picking that mahogany. I was awe struck when I first saw it.

Yes, those are a blue dog and silver bell. Both alnico with light dope. They sound great. A little loud though

Finished my express build!....for now. Plus Pics

Hey all, So I finally finished up my build this weekend. The only thing left to do is use Allyns fast/grad foot switch kit. I added a cut control, which is exactly what I needed to tame the brightness and the fast/gradual switch. External Bias Adjustment and I also had to change all the pots to Mil ...
