Re: 240VAC Amp?

Use a step up transformer to be on the safe side, uk and harmonized euoropean spec equipement runs at a 230v +/- 6% at 50 hertz, not sure of your specs over the pond but the tolerances could be a fair bit different. The UK still uses 240V despite the 'harmonised' European voltages and certain other...

Re: 240VAC Amp?

Correct me if I am wrong but that amp requires 240vac Euro style 1 hot 240vac 1 neutral 1 ground if there is one The 240 in your home ( Dallas ) 2 hots both opposite phase 120vac each 1 neutral 1 ground The two 120V hots are equivalent to the live and neutral except that it's balanced symmetrically...

Re: Any Car Stereo Gurus Here?

I have a complete library loaded on my Ipod but when I try to load up new songs it wants to delete my entire library. Do I need to read more and figure this out or do have any secrets. I'm not that good with devices I guess. Mark Download something like YamiPod and use it to pull the music of...

Re: 5E8A build

True they are different but not terribly so. Primarily the removal of the Tube rectifiers and replaced with 2 more 5881's Solid state rectifier, bigger filtering and flipped phase on the speakers. He did start playing it with only two power tubes after I convinced him it would be better. It was the...

Re: I wanna buy an Express clone.

If you mean 120/240V then yes you can and no, it won't affect the sound.

I do this on all of the amps I build.

They sit in your outbox until they have been read by the recipient. It's nothing to do with your inbox.

Re: Give me Some General Tips on Caps and Resistors

Can I assume, then, that changing the 4.7K to a big metal film might reduce hiss? I would think it would have an effect on the output plates. You'll get very little hiss from your power amp, so it'll probably have no audible difference at all. Hiss is mostly caused by the first gain stage and the f...

Re: Give me Some General Tips on Caps and Resistors

WestLabs has Clarostat conductive plastic pots. I like 2W resistors generally, either KOA Speer carbon film (also sold as Kiwame) or Beyschlag metal film. The 1W PRP GP1 resistors are really nice and very quiet too, although they are quite large (long) for their rating, so can be bit of a squeeze in...

Re: Scumback Speakers moves production to California...woohoo!

Great news that you'll have the production under your control now, Jim, but a shame that repair or recone work will now be done to Weber's standards of QA rather than yours.

I guess I'll park the thought of getting my 25W ones rebuilt to 65W!

Re: KOA Speer's Anybody?

They're great in wreck builds but they're kind of Marshall-style anyway.

The SPR2s are the exact same resistors as Kiwame, with the exception that Kiwame may have theirs selected for tighter tolerance post manufacture since they are marketed as tighter tolerance than they are printed on the body.

Re: Heyboer Wiring Diagrams

If you're building a Liverpool then you probably don't want to be on the high voltage secondary taps at all because the plate voltage is already pretty high for EL84s. If you really want to do it (and you need to be very careful about exceeding tube ratings if you do) then you'll need a DPDT switch ...

Re: Heyboer Wiring Diagrams

That's the same way mine are wired.

This does assume it's a dual 120V primary, though, and not a tapped primary.

I believe RJ's export trannies have tapped primaries, Marshall-style, for instance so without a wiring diagram for this particular transformer it really needs to be tested to be sure.
