Re: Fat PAB mods - LTSPice simulations

Thanks, Tom...I thought he was referring to the diagram right next to that paragraph.

Re: Fat PAB mods - LTSPice simulations

(SNIP) Blue: fat PAB by replacing the 500p (or actually 220p) with a 2M2 resistor as shown in the schem below. Bottom end increases but high end remains the same as with "normal" PAB If the resistor is decreased to 1M bottom end further increases but highs remain unchanged. Increasing the 2M2 shift...

Re: A poll about Speakers...

One speaker I haven´t tried yet is the SRO EV, hope to try the WGS clone soon. Marcos If you mean the AlNiCo (coffee can) SRO, I now both that and a Blackhawk now. I like the WGS Blackhawk just fine, but I don't hear the "SRO Clone" thing as much as other people seem to. Both speakers seem to lean ...

Re: A poll about Speakers...

G12-65 and variants (ASW, Scumback, etc) have a certain gnarl that's really nice for Robben-esque tones. EV-12S gets my vote as being a bit more pleasant than the 12L in the highs for some reason. But...I recently got an EV SRO (coffee can magnet) that's a recone. Man, that's got something kinda spe...

Re: PAB issues: too much bass, pop with footswitch

Thanks for the replies so far. I wanted to emphasize: this pop is there ONLY WHEN THERE IS AUDIO. It isn't there if there is no audio. Is that fact diagnostic at all?

I have a .01uF cap across the footswitch as well.
You have a cap across the footswitch, or across the relay that the footswitch operates?

Replacing leads after tweaking?

My amp has been through so much tweaking over the last couple of years...lots of replacements of various components on the main boards, but not too much at the preamp tube sockets. Nevertheless, the solid core wires connecting the boards to the socket have me wondering: if these have work hardened f...

PAB issues: too much bass, pop with footswitch

In my build, the PAB really had too much bass to it, such that any attempt to use the 5th and 6th strings during a solo sounded really woofy. To try to deal with that, I did the typical thing of trying to put capacitors in series with the signal to make a high pass filter. I ended up with a .001uF s...

Re: Parallel loop - for ampgarage users only :-D

I built one of KOC's series-parallel loops (without the 20db switch) into a little aluminum box that I attached to the chassis on my build. I prefer parallel mode because I use a rackmount TC effects unit, and running the loop in series (adjusting the wet mix with the TC's mix control) it seems to l...

Re: Speaker Phase

Re your first point I agree completely. No acoustic energy is going to be passed directly to the tube's internal structure. It is after all in a vacuum! Doesn't this only hold true if we define "acoustic energy" as only being transmissible via air? In other words, there is definitely vibration that...

Since power scaling isn't used much in Dumble circuits, I'd suggest you start the thread in the Technical Discussion section. Good place to search, too.

Re: Robben Ford!

I didn't get to spend as much time poking around as I wanted, because as soon as Rick took me on stage, the floodgate kind of opened and a dozen or so people stepped forward and started asking questions. I felt kinda bad for having "opened the door" before the theater was empty. Nobody feels like an...

Re: Robben Ford!

I thought I heard some crackling from Robben's amp early on and by the end it was obvious the amp was having some problems. He even peered at the back of the amp at one point and he futzed with his pedal board some as well. It wasn't his amp causing the static, it seemed to be something in his peda...
