Love my Scumback and love my WGS speakers. Can't go wrong either way IMO.

This has been my experience as well. When I am ordering from AES and I throw turrets in, I always pay the little extra for the gold ones.

Re: NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ON A POT?
The presence circuit is dependent on the amount of NFB. For example, if you do decide to put your variable NFB on a push-pull pot to defeat it altogether, then the Presence knob has no effect on the tone at all. Aiken's page has a great explanation of how they work together here... https://www.aiken...

Even better, put it on a push-pull pot so you can defeat it altogether!

Re: Larry Carlton played a Vox last night
I wanted to catch that, either there or at Yoshi's! But yeah, I wasn't too anxious because I saw that the focus was from his work with Steely Dan. He's definitely one of the guys I want to see before it's too late. A decent enough D-Style pedal through a great pedal-platform amp should sound pretty ...

Curious about Friedman Buxom Betty...
Has anyone had a look at a schematic or at least the topology of this amp? Is it just a typical Marshall preamp mated with a Fender-ish poweramp or something different altogether? I can't really find anything about it.

Re: How to calculate for voltage dividers and grid leak resistors
Yeah, what Martin said.
Try and find some schematics that show tested voltages at various points in the amp and you can get a good sense of how that all plays out.

Re: EF86, 6267,,,, Quiet Options~~
Yeah EF86 tubes are often maligned because of the microphonics, but that CAN be greatly minimized. Your "typical" resistor values used for them push them way too aggressively. Merlin goes into some detail on this on his website, and even deeper into the subject in his preamp book. http://valvewizard...

Re: MOTORBOATING!!!
Here is a video of one of my builds motorboating... just the sound, no other distractions... lol. It would be cool if there was a sticky thread that had samples of BAD sounds coming from amps so we could all speak the same language when issues come up. :) Like samples motorboating, reversing the OT ...

Re: How to calculate for voltage dividers and grid leak resistors
Well there's a voltage divider just before the third gain stage... 470k/470k... that will drop your voltage by 50% going through there, but curiously it comes AFTER a 1M pot... so the 1M pot is setting a value and then the voltage divider is cutting what the pot is already cutting by some amount in ...

Re: Sometimes you just have to shake your head and play the game...
yeah you never know. It could be some uneducated 16-year-old rich kid looking for a cool amp and his "cluelessness" (in our eyes) is genuine. Best to just be patient. Better to lose a sale just because he's not interested than to lose a sale because you are being a jerk or ignoring him.
