Re: Fully Loaded Rocket

This will somewhat answer the question as to how much can fit into the standard size chassis! Seems like you were able to fit a lot! My question is : what are the dimensions of a standard size chassis? I am shopping for parts for my first amp and would like to know what is the standard size and wha...

Re: Rocket rectifier tubes and Merlin's Rocket mod

In my Dynaco ST-70, I was going through jj gz34's fairly quickly, arcing and such. That's four EL34's. What I did was put 2 11amp IXYS hexfreds in series with the rectifier. Solved all the problems and actually improved the sound of the amp a bit. Tighter, deeper in the lows. Doesn't change the volt...

Re: Help me tune up my Two Rock Ruby please.

Harsh top can also be a sign of instability in these types of amps. Can you dime all the controls without audible oscillation?

Re: Anyone notice how large the 500pF cap is in a Rocket?

The panasonic caps have an M in a box logo on them. M for Matsushita.

Actually, it looks like those are the polyester variety.

Nice board, Mark. Are you putting the orange drops in the tone stack?

Re: Tube amp has static noise (clip inside)

Nice amp. I would have guessed a leaky coupling cap based on that noise clip and the burned up tube.

Re: I got yo big ol' Ultra Linear right here.

UL makes me cry. You guys all like way too clean a breakup. It's very bold by the time the volume is high enough to make up for the missing clipping. ;) I do have a question and with my level of understanding an answer may even make sense now: what must I do to remove the UL from a Major besides ta...

Re: Shielded cable in Rocket builds?

The problem with RFI is that if you take your amp out somewhere, it may be exposed to more trouble than you get at home. There's a rehearsal studio in Alameda, Ca which is located near an air force base. Every so often this incredibly loud blast of white noise would burst out of my amp; very spinal ...

Re: Shielded cable in Rocket builds?

I used shielded cable on the input. Seems like good practice to me, not much capacitance in those short runs and noise degrades the sound in ways that can't be fixed by a slightly different treble or cut setting.

Re: Marshall Modified by Ken F on eBay

OH MY GOD!! I....must....have......Skid Row...tone...... Here's another picture I grabbed from an ebay auction, way, way back that was purported to be a Ken Fischer modified Marshall. This one did not go for big money. I want to say, it sold for $800 or so. [img:400:300]http://theinside.net/twreck/K...

Re: Rocket mod - why didn't I do it sooner?!?

I'm interested to hear how this affected the amp(besides limiting bass of course) Well, trimming the bass is the main point. Before, I could only really run the bass from 0 and 3 and a half. Now, there's a lot more nice sounds to dial in. I think the K40y's add some swirl and harmonics, hard to rea...

Rocket mod - why didn't I do it sooner?!?

Last night I lowered the .047 output tube coupling caps to .022, sort of splitting the difference of AC30 and Rocket. It's so superior! Couldn't stop playing last night! Also, used the Russian K40y-9's instead of the 716p's. I'm really blown away by how much better the Russian military caps are. The...

Re: A3801 value?

Nice clip, Jackie! :D Do you mean you got a grey Stancor? If you did, score! I'm with you on Heyboer. I recently had them make me a custom one off to my specs and it didn't cost much more than a bill. Even got it in M6 for a few dollars more, just for the hell of it. Tell me a little more about the...

Re: A3801 value?

I read on TGP about her and her first owner. He sold her because he preferred his old AC. Wonder if there's any regret about that now. Anyone built a TremRocket for himself on here? I know it's a one triode bias vary but that's pretty much the extent of it. Oh yeah, gotta use the spare triode, righ...

Re: Express Low End

Change the phase inverter tail/bias resistor from 10k/470 to 39k/1krespectively. Lots of quality bass with that change even with .002 cap on the third stage.
