Re: BF Skirted Knobs
If I remember correctly, there was some business about set screw orientation in determining vintage skirted knobs authenticity. As ussual, the details elude me.

Heritage 535
Here is another option. I just picked up this little jewel at the Guitar Show in Dallas last weekend. Pricewise, it splits the middle between the Gibson and the Epiphone. After spending a couple of hours trying to find a decent ES-335 for $2,500 or less, this guitar found me.

Re: Early 1960s Gretsch Amp
I have a later 60's Gretsch that I am restoring for a friend. The chassis sides are made out of rough cut wood. I would not be surprised if the wooden blocks in yours are original.

Re: Head/ Cab woodwork advice
Not to discourage, but consider the following: If this is a vintage amp, save the original cabinet and build new replacements. The tooling and time involved will be much greater than just buying a head cabinet and speaker box. If this is a one-off project, I would consider going that way. If you are...

Re: Thoughts when changing guitar strings
Back in the day, (30 years ago!) I have seen more than one amateur tattoo artist using guitar strings for tattooing needles and modified electric shavers for the tattoo machine. After seeing the results, I still have no tattoos. I know what they look like when things go horribly wrong.

I saw JB/SRV as well. One of my favorite shows ever.
Rhonda Smith is no slouch on bass. I believe she used to play in Prince's band.

Nice interview. It is worth a listen. I like it when Page plays DJ. There are some interesting influences played.

Re: Radio Shack Bankruptcy
A few things came together. When I was a kid, I could go to radio shack and pick up a few resisters, jacks or whatever small electronics I needed now. They started moving to cell phones and more focus on consumer electronics and stopped carrying the things hobbyist needed. I would go for the occasio...

Re: How did you get your start in amp repairs?
I was also born in 1963. During the 80's I started buying Blackface Fender amps at the local pawn shops. They were cheap and I was young and poor. At that time, I could pick up a bandmaster head cheaper than I could buy the tubes for it. Over time, they all needed something repaired, so I took them ...

Re: New Score: Fender Speaker, Sweat and Sour
The drip edge is makes it 67-69 if I recall correctly. Is that a JBL 15"?. I ordered some drop in kits for a pair of JBLs in a Twin that worked out well on a pair of 12" JBLs. Try Orange County speakers.

Re: Wierd sound from my Express, need help PLS !
every thing is brand new.. I take off the amp out of the head shell and put it in the side of the cab and no more problem... There's a clue. Check the screw clearance for the cover plate to the potentiometer lugs. I had one that was too close and when I put it in the cabinet and screwed everything ...

Re: Airbrake Buzz
I would check the connections on the ohmite adjustable resister. On mine, I had to get fairly agressive with a wire brush to make really good contact at the correct resistance. That being said, I only like it for the first three or four clicks max. Beyond that, I start to lose something in the tone.
