Shameless, self-promotional plug at the MI members!!

Still some tix left for this one. My band (Shakey Jakes) and Black Irish will be warming up the stage for The Rockets Sat. night at the Royal Oak Music Theatre. Many of Deetroit's six-string bandits will be gracing the stage - Elliott Rosado, Shane Sanders, Chuck Burns, Dave Black and old Jim McCart...

Re: Layout Opinions

1/4" standoffs makes it difficult to route large wires under it, if there is a network of wiring on the underside, which there usually is. The wires just hang up on all that stuff. 1/2" is easier if you can manage it. Doesn't look like he can use 1/2" standoffs because of the fat Solens caps he wan...

They're only worth what you're willing to pay. I'd give about $40 MAX for them if I ran across them at a garage sale. I would pro...

Re: some tesla el34s (rare or not?)

Telsa............. became JJ who still offers EL34s in "sky blue glass". Not saying it's exactly the same innards and the ones I have aren't nearly as blue. These look a little funky to me. Eric Nah, that dark shade of blue is right for the pre-JJ stuff, as is the red. Also, the shapes of the glass...

Re: some tesla el34s (rare or not?)

Be careful here, there are a lot of fakes around! If it looks too good to be true, you can bet your butt it is! Look on the web, just google fake Tesla EL34. If the seller is in Hong Kong, forget it, they're very likely Chinese fakes. Really? I never thought of Tesla's as being worth enough to coun...

Same as the clear glass versions from their respective eras. Mix and match for "Purple Haze" tone.

Re: Heatsinks and compound for VVR

Ok, I'll be very careful with whatever grease I use so it doesn't short anything out. Yeah, I realize that using grease and multiple sinks is hardly the most efficient way of dissipating heat. I'm just trying to use what I have on hand. The Bud chassis is only .050" thick. I was just thinking that a...

Heatsinks and compound for VVR

Seems like most of the VVR problems I've read about are heat related. I've never worked with devices like transistors, so I'm hoping y'all could help me out with keeping the MOSFET cool. I'm gonna use Dana's VVR with a 4XEL84 Rocket build. Amp is going in to a painfully thin Bud aluminum chassis. I'...

Re: Octal Deluxe

Unless your pots are insolated from the chassis you have a ground loop going on. I would separate the main filter cap and grounded with the center taps. Then listen to amp for noise. Since the buss bar is grounded to all the pots and the remaining filter cap stages there may be another ground loop ...

Re: Octal Deluxe

I've used Tom's recommended grounding scheme many times with good results. Lately, I've been using something like a single ground buss for everything with equally good results, but I've always grounded my jacks with their respective cathodes and made the actual chassis ground connection with a wire ...

Re: PPIMV in Rocket?

Short of an attenuator or power scaling, the LarMar should be the best type of master you can get on an AC30 or Rocket. It should work even better than on Marshalls because you won't get the NFB loop collapsing at low output levels and should retain the tone, subject to power tube distortion/linear...

Re: PPIMV in Rocket?

[quote="rooster"]I had a Hayseed 30 over here one day about 3 years ago. The MV was not my focus but I am pretty sure there were no dual pots in that amp - and that's your answer. Yeah, I just saw a random gut shot of the Hayseed and also noticed it did not use dual-gang pot. I just ordered a VVR an...

this is a 69 metal panel i'm modifying for someone and whomever had it before me didn't do the ground good enough on that one pot which looks not to be an original pot as well.
Cool, easy fix.
