Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm glad I could read at least one testimony about "pot mods", for I failed to find any until then. I'll try that, thanks again!

Re: AC4TV - Circuit board differences and mod question.
Well, afterwards I am not sure I would start messing with C4, plus I feel like I should have moderated myself. For example snubber cap values close to 500pF may not be so uncommon. So, to start at the begining, blindly : A typical value for C16 is 22uF, not 22nF. It indeed is an electrolytic. Using ...

Re: Sabotage?
He set you up... Meaning that the "fix" will be easy for you. Customer will love the work... You have a new customer! You were set up. Something like that - anything but sabotage - assuming there's no need to 100% trust your client when he said the tech did not wanted to finish fixing the amp, rath...

Re: AC4TV - Circuit board differences and mod question.
I'll take a few more minutes to answer you more precisely, so you possibly know better what I meant ... "A" is where C6 = 22nf is installed on some board versions at the volume pot, but NOT on mine and "B" is where I have the unnamed 22nf cap Have they just moved C6 for some reason ? Possibly someth...

You should be able to find the pdf as well as more competent feedback (including from member dorrisant, likely) on the EL34 World forum. Have fun!, but ... manage to stay alive ... :!: NB (as I seem to see isolated gloves) how about any discharging resistor? Learn safe practice instead of trying to ...

Re: AC4TV - Circuit board differences and mod question.
Of course, we both know that we would rather gut it and build something else, whatever that is - even though an EL84 powered circuit would possibly be prefered - but that is not the typical "first tube amp mod" thing ... :? Anyway, I was just passing to post the schematic I found for the amp. Is it ...

Re: AC4TV - Circuit board differences and mod question.
I had a look at a schematic for this amp and there seem to be several things that didn't make much sense to me, including the points you reported. That C6 seems pretty weird, notably and I wouldn't be troubled that my amp hasn't it. If I were you, I think I'd go one mod at a time, starting with C4, ...

Re: Are carbon films worth the trouble?
R.G., with due respect, I feel you shouldn't make it so complex. One side note as an introduction. Let me recall to everyone that scientific advances most often come from improved measurement techniques showing discrepancies with past/present theories. As long as we can't meet all in person with the...

Re: Introduction - New member - Workshop advice needed
Hi Alex, I'm sorry I can't help but suggest that you look at classified in your area and possibly come back to ask about the items you found there if you can't find some advice locally. From xtian's suggestions you should be able to eyeball the characteristics needed even if the imported (+50%) pric...

Re: Robot overlords! chat.openai.com
So I tried it again, same question, RLC resonant frequency for the same values. This time, it got a different wrong answer and didn't show the steps evaluating the formula. I disagreed, and gave the right answer. It apologized, and recalculated, getting my answer. Again, not showing the steps. Aske...
