Re: Board construction opinions?

I'm not sure what the rationales for using mixed techniques are but if you're only troubled with wires being connected to the turrets from below (à la Hiwatt?) connect them for above, like : kelt-bluebird-6d295a_fdd03e21fe4c41519322537cffa82dd8.jpg The same applies to eyelets - I think - For what's ...

Re: Hiwatt DR201 OT - Tube Town vs TAD

I read somewhere that Tube Town(/inMADout?) transformers may be cheaper for not passing HiPot tests, yet I'm not even sure that gossip is worth reporting... :?
(with sincere apologies if this is untrue but I would like my related trouble to be dissipated)

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!

As by reading you is sounds like this 820R resistor is a mod not really noticeable: how about Ken Fisher writing that this is a mod you may like or not?

Experience is something one can't acquire but by himself... :?

Note that I never tried it myself but I'm confident enough that no grid stopper on the first triode is a fair challenge ;-)

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!

The input is supposed to be sensitive up to the edge of unstable on these amps, according to what I could read here. Therefore, the hum may well be a minor problem when the build will be finished, or you'll be forced to tame the input and risk loosing that "trick". How about you keep mounting the am...

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!

The revised/unusual placement for the OT is surprising, to say the least. Trainwreck(s) are extremely optimised amps, according to the legend. There seems to be very little margin for modifications, beyond using cap cans to avoid the stack thing, does it seem ... :?

Re: Vox AC4 output transformer?

Noticed the ATRA0211 from https://www.die-wuestens.de/eindex.htm too - even though the shop doesn't seem to accept credit card payments. Information about the transformer reads: [...] new production output transformer, made according to a modified Telefunken design. Core EI 78. Very nice transformer...

Thanks again Steve, for that and all the valuable information you (also) spreaded through the internet ... 8)

Any comment about paper wound (output) transformers - for example Hammond 1750E vs 1750EP - anyone?

Vox AC4 output transformer?

So far, my two main options are the (5k5 prim.) beefy Hammond 1750B featuring paper wounding and a 10W "capacity" and the somewhat more "british" ex-Amp Maker (5k prim.) 5W transformer from Primary Windings ( https://primarywindings.com/product/amp-maker-5w-single-ended-output-transformer/ ), but ma...

Re: PT for a 5E3 Deluxe

Thanks for the link, yet I don't know how to handle the (looping) fact that the poster thanks yourself (Steve) for suggesting the BX as a PT ... :) I'm sure the advice is a good one, though, as there is (approx.) a 20% current increase from 115 to 138A, which is twice the minimum required to be call...

Re: Power transformer for tweed deluxe

Yes, great tip.

On a matter more related to 5E3 PT, afterwards I feel like I should have considered the current capacity too, as the original 5E3 is supposed to sag a lot.
