Re: Silverface twin conversion
Ben I could stop by there after work and lowball the guy and see what happens, if you want the amp. At least tell them its a POS. :D Ye could I suppose. I stopped in there looking at other stuff yesterday and notice that there is another 6L6 sitting in the cab on the floor, so that weakens my case ...

Re: Silverface twin conversion
The earlier the better. Do you know which circuit it is? 8 ohms should be right for 4x6V6. It's got an MV so no blackface guts, unless someone blackfaced it. That would be neat I guess if it was done right. Since it's already been modded I might totally overhaul - keep the old caps maybe but new bo...

Re: Silverface twin conversion
Ben you didn't pick that amp up yet, on the phone I thought you said you were going back over there? It would be worth it and talk them down like you said. Yeah, haven't gone yet, realized tax time was coming up awful quick and decided to wait til I figured out what the damage is. I've got a saving...

Depends on where you are. Where I am it's definitely under 8%, maybe under 7.

Silverface twin conversion
So.. there's a silverface twin at a pawn shop in town. It's had the master removed and some randome pot added in the back, and it's only got one output tube. No idea if it actually even runs. I'm thinking of walking in with 300 cash and seeing if they'll bite. Speakers look original for what that's ...

Re: Volt ODS-RR new UK built "D" style Amp
Where's the harm? 715s or not it sounds good. If the price is too high it will either get adjusted or the business won't make. Why does every new entry to the fray get so much crap? Especially with bangin clips?

Re: 4 meg potentiometer
If you can find a non-switched one you might be able to transfer the wafer into a switched pot body. That's the problem. Somebody really destroyed the insides of this one... I was actually thinking of a finding a new switched pot that would fit your application, and a new 4meg non switched pot to t...

What about mounting a terminal strip using a screw/bolt through the empty hole? That's provided there's space in the chassis...

Re: Fender Pro Jr platform suggestions.
An 18watt lite, carmen ghia, half power stangray. Non of those are ss rectified, so you'd have to tweak the power supply a bit.

Re: Sunn Model A
Tightened the socket, cleaned with contact cleaner, reflowed all the joints on the socket, the connector, and the preamp board. The tube itself is no longer microphonic but the plate and grid wires of half the 12ax7 are. Maybe that will be ok when the amps buttoned up, I don't know. Also, the unshie...

Right, I'll see where things sit after the recap. The owner had talked about trying some different tubes.JD0x0 wrote:if the voltages are a little high it's nothing to worry about, But like i always say, KT88's are always an option. IMO they sound alot better than 6550's
