I don't think HAD should ever be held up as a positive business model. Eccentrics often get to set their own rules, some get shielded from consequence, others merely aren't bothered by it.bluesfendermanblues wrote: And mr D used to be day-to-day delivery and provided long credit lines to his customers? Re: Looks like Quinn is going under
It may be premature to say Quinn is going under, but they've definitely dug their way into a hole we rarely ever see any builder get out of. No wonder Shad is "ill." I made my points in the TGP about the problems of a business model where you take a hefty balloon payment 9, 10, 12 or more months bef...

Re: Tino Z's 5b6 ptp
So, since this is an active conversation... How many are using the (relative hard to find) 6SC7 for V1 and how many are rewiring to use a 6SL7 in that spot? Is there a major difference. I know the difference in the construction between the two, but I always assumed the performance of the triodes wer...

Re: Slow pilot light
Put in a new bulb.
The little solder blob that forms the contact point at the tip gets compressed over time.
Simplest and most direct solution first. New bulb. Maybe clean the socket.

That just makes it worse.showbander wrote:Hi mate ,this will be for the 5e3 Proluxe...With 6l6's !
You want more like the 340-0-340.
You want the secondary closer to 425VDC, not 340VDC.

Re: 5E3 Big (6l6's)
It's not a historic model, but a kit-bashed high-powered 5E3 with larger Tweed Pro power and output transformers and GZ34 (or SS cooper cap in the Weber). Ceriatone is using the original 5E3 filter cap values and cathode bias; Weber using heavier filtering and fixed bias to tighten things up. It's r...

Re: 5F10 Harvard Triple Inputs
I believe that kit-bashed Havard used the older Weber Princeton chassis. I sure wouldn't want to try to drill and punch extra holes in the newer stainless-steel Weber chassis.

Re: HEATER WIRES
So...as with so many things about amps..it's subjective That may not be the right word, "subjective" implies everyone feels their way is better than another. It's not a worst to best progression; instead it is a threshold...it either works right (quiet)...or it doesn't (noise). The rest is ergonomi...

Re: HEATER WIRES
The reason we twist wires is to keep them close and parallel to one another. It's keeping heater wires parallel than reduces noise, I don't think the wires themselves can be mechanical twisted tight enough to actual reduce radiation. That's why Soldano can get a quiet high-gain amp with something li...

Wait is the YB1A a model? or a typo for the YBA-1a Bassmaster Mk II?
Hard to keep up with all the old Traynor models.

Re: Question about touch responsive amplifier design
In your case, you've overdriven the preamp to the point of compression . On most non-master volume amp, the Volume pot is placed right after the 1st gain stage. On master volume amps, this is often simply re-labeled as Gain . You need to find the sweet spot of the amp by cranking the Master Volume a...

The 290BEX or 291BEX might work. Available from Tube-Town in Germany. TAD offers something as well, but I don't see any spec's.

Re: OK guys, where to start?
I think a Champ is a great first amp if you want to experiment and learn how the amp works and not jut how to assemble one. Its relatively few parts make it real easy to learn how to read a schematic and see which component does what. Amp prices skyrocket if you worry about building clones with peri...

Re: Pre PI master vs post
There could be several factors.
Which PI design are you using? Fender's 12AT7 split-pair PI?
But the whole reason for a PPIMV is to include the tone of the overdriven PI. I many amps people finds it adds a thicker, more poweramp-esque quality to the overdrive.
