Re: Express with 6V6's and 12K Primary OT?

Thanks Martin and Andre.

I think an Express with this tube at 350+ will be my next experiment.....

I will report once I get started....

Re: Express with 6V6's and 12K Primary OT?

What voltages would be better for the 6K6?

I think I found a data sheet 315+ on plates and 250+ on the screens?

Express with 6V6's and 12K Primary OT?

Just curious if anyone has built an Express with 6V6's and a 12k primary OT in order to match what is going on with the standard EL34 version with 6.6k OT?

Just thinking out loud to see if there is a way to duplicate the magic with a slightly lower volume threshold.....

thoughts?

Re: Increasing gain at Mixer Circuit?

Thanks guys. I should have noted that I was referring to the 2203 circuit.... Doh! That would have given better context.... I ended up just using a 560k to ground at the mixer. I have a 1uf attenuated with a 1.2k across a 5.6k in the second stage. The first stage is stock. I have a 1uf across the 82...

Increasing gain at Mixer Circuit?

Just curious if any of you have played with increasing the 470k to ground on the mixer circuit and the effects of doing so....

It seems like an easy way to increase gain. As you increase the value of the 470k resistor to say to 560k, or even 680k, will it cause blocking distortion in V2?

Thanks!

Re: TW iron in a high-gain Marshall-inspired build?

the amp that I play all the OD clips is a 20 watt 2204 that I built using Classictone TW OT. Worked really well IMO:

Re: Octal based Express

Well, a little more tweaking as I have spent more time with it lately. I realized that lowering the filtering caused too much ghosting when turned up. I also decreased the values of the grid stoppers on V2a and V2b to decrease the overall gain, also decreased the plate resistor on V1 from 82k to 68k...

Re: Octal based Express

Carl, In the latest schematic revision, you are now showing each power tube independently biased with 330R and 22uF. Previously and in your chassis photos, both power tubes were sharing 330R in parallel for 165R. Did you separate the cathodes? Yes sir, and added 1 Ohm resistors so I can check the c...

That was a Reinhardt Combo cab I repurposed. I bought it used from a guy who put his into a head format.

DC heaters? Did you find you need them or just planned it from the start?
I clean with 99.99% Alcohol as soon as I finish the joint. Standard AC heaters, I really pay attention to lead dress and ground points.
