Some tubes were packed in bulk, you need white boxes..."NOS tubes in a white box" either, which is becoming a bit of an oxymoron.

Re: Voltage opinion....
The last Sovtek 5Y3 I purchased didn't drop squat for voltage, so I wound up with 475V+ on the plates and screens of a pair of JJ 6V6s. Tubes are still running strong more than a year later. Me thinks I got a relabeled 5AR4. The Sovtek 5Y3GT is *NOT* a real 5Y3GT. It's a re-branded Russian 5Z4M, a ...

Re: Voltage opinion....
All medium and large octals can run at 500V plate, provided that screens are held tight and that max dissipation isn't exceeded. Even small 6V6GTs are really happy with 450+ volts! In general, there should be no problem. Leo ran 5881's in the good ol' 5F6-A at over 400V with no problem.

Re: Voltage opinion....
Would you guys mind checking my 5e7 voltage chart attached and offering some feedback? Voltages are quite high but can be typical of modern PTs used on 120+ volts. The amp will be fine provided that you add screen limiting resistors - typically 470R / 3W per tube. Bias seems quite cold, with 5881s ...

Re: Bias cap for BF Fender amps
25uF 50V is sort of a standard value for Fender in conjunction with the 250 Ohm bias resistor. Mo' like BF for Blackface, fixed bias etc. The 25/50 cap is the bias filtering cap, and yes, it should be uprated - 63V min, I use 100V. Using higher capacitance modifies the circuit time constants, leadi...

Re: Checking Resistor Values
It's not uncommon to have 10 or less exactly on spec out of 1000 units, but maybe as many as 100 within .05%. Once soldered the values will be off by ±5% or more depending on the type and mounting method. Why bother? Vintage amps used ±20% parts most of the time, ±10% for quality stuff and recent m...

M6 usually sounds more extended, cleaner and more defined at high levels.Interesting... what would be the difference tonally?

Re: Magnetics Components
Anyone tried these trannies? I'm gathering for a 5E3 build and the cost from Triode is pretty low. Any opinions/suggestions? Triode supplies their TF110, a nice small OT, but not an exact equivalent of any Fender-branded OT: it's an UL model with a 6K6 primary. Pick the Magnetic Components 40-18022...

Same xformer, different laminations: standard M19 for the 18009, low loss M6 for the 18001.Looks like there are 2 types of 50 watt, 40-18009 and 40-18001 both 4/8/16 ohm not sure what the difference is.

Can someone tell me more about RFT? I'm a bit confused how they fit in where they a sub contracted manufacture for Siemens to help fill orders or was it a brand like Phillips or Mazda? I've seen several companies selling the RFT el34 for less then Siemens but throwing the name around in the discrip...
