"Fubar Amps" K60 questions

I think the builder was from Michigan and I assume they are on TAG. Seems to have only one 8 ohm speaker out, the other is an empty hole. Has bias test points, but I need to confirm how it si wired and how to use it. Thanks for any input! [img:640:480]http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r69/liquidayn...

Re: K60/Asteroid...VVR? Which power tubes?

Thanks for the VVR info!

What about power tubes; stick with the JJ E34Ls or can I go with JJ KT-77's? How should I bias either?

K60/Asteroid...VVR? Which power tubes?

Dana, will VVR work on a 60 watter? (website says under 50 watts, but others say they have used it on the K60)

Which power tubescan/should I use? Mine came used with JJ E34Ls. Can I use 6L6, KT-77, 5881?

Thanks!

Re: reverb unit HUUUMMMMMMM!

Guitar, cable, reverb in, reverb out, amp Have not tested tubes, but this is a JMI reverb/top boost unit and top boost portion is fine, reverb sounds fine too but hums when "return" knob is on (no reverb signal when it is off which is expected, but then also no noise). Have not tested for ground lif...

Re: reverb unit HUUUMMMMMMM!

Just to be clear, this is an outboard reverb unit, that is between my guitar and amp like a pedal would be.

reverb unit HUUUMMMMMMM!

Just got a used reverb unit. Tubes are properly seated, connections seem fine, but when plugged into it and then into my amp, there is a really loud hum.

Goes away when I turn down the "return" knob on the reverb unit. Is this a ground loop or something else?

Re: New Years resolution: learn to build/modify a tube amp

In its current state it is a tube preamp pedal of sorts. Actually a single ended amp with output transformer into a resistive load with a switcheable reactive load (the 2" speaker), then to the output jack or headphones. A low-wattage amp to slave some power tube distortion into another larger amp. ...

Can I 'wreck" this?

After lurking forever, I need to jump in and build something! Can I "wreck" this and turn it into a little amp head: [img:640:425]http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r69/liquidayno/TubesMTI.jpg[/img] [img:400:300]http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r69/liquidayno/Tubes1.jpg[/img] [img:640:428]http://i...

New Years resolution: learn to build/modify a tube amp

After lurking forever, I need to jump in and build something! I will do some reading so I can understand parts/lingo, and acquire some tools, but here is what I want to modify: [img:640:425]http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r69/liquidayno/TubesMTI.jpg[/img] [img:400:300]http://i141.photobucket.com/...

Re: Express + 6V6 + American-voiced speaker + open-back 1x12 = ?

Thanks James.

I think I prefer the sound of 6K6, and also half power (not sure if that is triode or pentode).

I am running it fairly clean with volume not up past 9 o'clock, so probably won't go through tubes no matter what setting as infrequently as I get to play.

Re: Express + 6V6 + American-voiced speaker + open-back 1x12 = ?

I just noticed that my Ceriatone Expression with 6V6s has a 1/2 power switch, and a 6K6 or 5K2 switch.

What is happening on the amp to make it 1/2 power?

What does the primary tap switch do, and can I have it on either setting with 6V6s and an 8ohm speaker?

Re: Express + 6V6 + American-voiced speaker + open-back 1x12 = ?

Allright, got the Eminence Maverick FDM speaker installed and tested for 1/2 hour yesterday in the 1x12 Ceriatone Expression open back combo with 6V6's. Obviously needs to be broken in, but it definitely does give a significant volume drop (range is 100 db down to 91.5 db) without the annoying color...

Re: Express + 6V6 + American-voiced speaker + open-back 1x12 = ?

Thanks for the insight guys! At this point I don't have the experience or time to build my own so I picked up a Ceriatone with 6V6's and have it housed in a 1x12 open back combo cab. I just ordered an Eminence FDM Maverick speaker, the American voiced one that allows a 9 db drop by varying the flux ...
