Re: Gibson GA40T Les Paul Schematics
Might get a few of the 5879, and go through some to find a good one.

Re: Gibson GA40T Les Paul Schematics
Here is some info. I would say[but just guessing] it would be the GA40.. So, you'd have to ask your friend to be sure that is the correct model. Buffalo amps use to build a clone of the Gibson amp,and also Victoria. According to the 1958 Gibson catalog it would be the 2-tone amp,and it would have th...

Re: Gibson GA40T Les Paul Schematics
The Gibson amps can get confusing. You may have to ask your friend more details in what the amp looked like.. But basicly most of them were the same except in construction from hard wired, then to eyelet boards, or different looking cosmetics of the outside, or the LP logo to the 2 tone, tweedy look...

Yep, what he said, its easy to write on the base of the tube, and easy,if wanted to remove the writing.xtian wrote:I might try a silver Sharpie oil based pen. The pigment should stand up to plenty of heat. And the tip is small enough for fine writing.

Re: Trainwreck Facebook Page
Well I think thats the only one thats been built with an IEC so far. What don't you like about IEC sockets? Its not that I think they "sound" better. Usually the IEC cables are not very good quality, and smaller in size. Plus I have had amps here that had noise, because the molded plug not making a...

Re: JTM45 internal jumper noise
If you jumper inputs, its best to use a good quality cable, and small in length. Some people Jump or bridge channels in different ways. I guess whatever one likes. Hendrix used a Y cable. A little different ,but still much the same.

Re: Trainwreck Facebook Page
Possibly. Although the photo of the rear of the amp shows what looks like a standard output transformer. Power Transformer however is centred with the output transformer and looks a bit larger than the originals. I thought the PT was always off centre? Interesting valve cover as well. There is also...

Re: 36 watt build - at least it doesn't squeal
A few things about the amp and different layouts and schems. Over the years, Some things depending on the layout etc, have been changed,or were never corrected. And some have added their own take on the amp. One important one to keep the bass more adjustable, is changing the .022 cap in the tone cir...

Re: Help with Ampeg B15n diagnostics
The B15N though the years had some different changes made. One is the output plug/cable,and circuit. they had a protection circuit too. Might be a good idea to see if any of that has been changed. Many people want to use a reg jack. here is some info on them. http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Am...

Re: 600v Mallory cap
And as in fenders, the first cap in line seems to go bad first.
Overlook that the pos and neg are not laying the way they should be, I just pulled it and threw it down and took a pic.
yes Leo, new fresh caps were installed, bias and bypass caps.

600v Mallory cap
I thought this might be interesting or maybe even a surprise to some. I have a Ampeg B-15 here, bone stock. Which had a leaking 600v electrolytic cap. You may see these caps used in other old amps. Some people use the old shell for looks,or to make them look more orignial. Or to just slide in new cap...

Loss of heater connection or voltage, among many others, the amp may go quiet.

Re: Danish oil finish on cherry head cabinet
I don't know the answer to the question about if it will effect it or not. But I wanted to mention that may help others or DIY people. I tried many different oils or rub in finishes. And the last one I used was the Tru Oil. [Birchstone Casey] By FAR, the easiest to use, and best finish or outcome ha...

Re: Fender Pro Reverb UltraLinear (70w)
Richie, I ended up replacing both power tube sockets and triple checked the wiring, even checked another version of the same schematic to make sure. The latest voltages were without any tubes in the amp. Something has to be shorted. I've seen people that said they checked things 100 times, but stil...

Re: Fender Pro Reverb UltraLinear (70w)
can you post some pics of the output sockets? You replaced one? is it wired correct? Did you have these voltage readings before you replaced the socket?
What happens if you pull the output tubes, then measure the voltages? A few pics might help see whats going on.
