Re: Blizzard
Don't you think that governments (fed, state, local) are just covering their asses? Every time there's a relatively big whatever, there are always some yo-yo's who end up dead, because they were THAT stupid.

Re: Questions on HiWatt
hmm...just listened to that youtube and looked at the Reeve's site. Since no one famous named Eddie played Hiwatt, and from looking at the literature, that is not a standard Hiwatt amp...may be what you want, but who knows what's going on in it until someone documents it. The Jimmy Page model is bas...

I like it!! Sounds awesome but explain me this..... why use two mogami cables to roll off highs instead of not using bright switch? Not trying to answer for Glen, but having built a Liverpool and some other amps, different ways of rolling off highs sound different even though it doesn't seem like t...

No, however, I know that he ran the Music Man cabs with JBLs and open backs in the 70's and 80's. One way or the other, something was open. It makes sense to me to port to the front.JMFahey wrote:Never heard about that, are you sure.

Sort of off topic, but this site has good info...seems to have been overrun with ads though.

HRDx replacement speaker ?
Client has a hot rod deluxe with coil rub. The previous owner thought a G12H30 would be a good match...oi. Anyway, I don't think he's a very experience player, so I need to figure out a recommendation for this amp. I tested it with a G1265 and it was darker...didn't futz with the tone settings. What...

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb II
If I had to guess, I'd say ut was an improv solo. I've seen footage of Fagen and Becker doing an in-studio interview. They had the multitrack master on line, and Donald, to illustrate how fitting Jays solo was, was bringing up snippets of other takes from various guitarists. None of those snippets ...

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb II
I will say that Paul was old school. All about "secrets" much like HAD. When I got my EE, they had just dropped tubes from the curriculum a year or two prior. It was all buried in existing schematics, and RDH...how to create good distortion...not so much. It's quite possible that the best amps he is...

Re: Fender Princeton Reverb II
This says the amp was designed by Ed Jahns, under supervision by Paul: http://www.stratopastor.org.uk/strato/amps/prii/magazine/magazine.html This is correct. Kind of a pissing match between Ed, who was old enough to have retired, and Paul, who was kind of established for a young guy...at the time....

Re: how do EVM12Ls sound in a Marshall style 1960 cabinet?
Both Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler used two EV12-Ls in Marshall 1960A cabinets in the late 80's/early 90's. I believe they ran them closed back with two holes open. There should be ample videos on youtube from that era.

Re: ac30 build started
Bit of a tangent, but what iron are you using and an aluminum 18 watt chassis may need some reinforcing. [edit] look at how thick the chassis is. I have an Allyn generic chassis I used for a similar amp and it's fine. I was in the original 18W group and those chassis weren't as thick...fine for smal...

Re: Fender Hot Rod DeVille Michael Landau
I feel the same but just put a 12AT7 in v1 on every hotrod I service(usually all have bad IC filter caps) which tames it down and most customers like the added volume control and creamier overdrive with less gain. That's an interesting choice. How does it compare to 12ay7/12au7/5751 as V1? I keep g...
