interesting post at the JTM45 group

Post by markd »

There is a post at the JTM45 site here:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/JTM45/message/4349
that mentions the Two Rock guys are selling some Trainwreck type trannies, etc. Sounds interesting. If the link above doesn't work here is the text of the post.

"I have really enjoyed learning about JTM45 amp building but have not
been able to contribute to the technical discussion as a newbie.
However, I did want to pass along an opportunity from the Two Rock
guys. Seems they are discontinuing their Ruby (Trainwreck Express)
line and are selling their Trainwreck reverse engineered transformer
sets (made by the Trainwreck OEM), finished cabinet and the anodized
aluminum chassis with lettering for $500. Considering Ken Fisher
only
made 100 and they planned a run of 50 production amps (made only 30)
and are selling the remaining 20, I figure it is a unique opportunity
for a fairly good attempt at a Trainwreck build. Its not every day
amp builders as good as they are, are willing to part with their
product and work, but I was glad to help them out by buying some
excess product so they can get on with building a Dumble Custom
Reverb
I hope to own some day. While this is a bit off topic, I did think
some of you might be interested or curious. Hope it helps someone
out!"

Dear Mark

I have tried sending them an email, but I haven't received a reply from them, perhaps they sold the lot?

Should anyone purchase the stuff from them, let us know.

Yours Sincerely

Mark Abbott.

I received a reply from Joe at K&M (Two Rock):
Joe from K&M wrote:The kit includes a black tolex cabinet complete with feet and handle, a black anodized punched and labelled aluminum chassis, and an output and power transformer originally used on the production Ruby.A spec sheet on both transformers is included.

Only a layout pic and schematic are available on request, you're on your own
for parts, tubes, etc. This is not a kit in the Heathkit sense, but rather a
package of components to get you started.

Kit does not include instructions, caps, resistors, pots, wire,
sockets, switches, tubes, etc. It is designed to be the basis for a custom
amp of your choice, and will support 2 or 4 EL84s, or 2 6L6s, 6V6s, EL34s,
KT66s, etc.

thanks again,

Joe
K&M
I emailed him back asking for a price.

Thanks,
Omar

Dear Omar

Thanks for the update. I've yet to hear anything from them.

Strange eh?

Mind you, it would be interesting to see the spec sheet on the transformers. ;)

Yours Sincerely

Mark Abbott.
