Express preamp

After hearing the soundclips in the "files" section, I've got to build one of these - very impressive !

But I have to finish my current build first which leads to my question.

Has anyone grafted an Express preamp onto a Deluxe Reverb ? I just finished my clone and instead of the planned Plexi as the second channel I'm thinking that an Express might be cool.

My biggest concern (other than the brightness issue considering the small PI coupling caps in the AB763 circuit) is the amount of gain. As I'm sure you all know, the Fender circuit has a reverb driver, reverb recovery and the an additional gain stage after the preamp.

Any experience, or will I have to be the guinea pig

Richie Hall did something like what you describe to a Marshall 30 watt amp. I believe that one channel was the 18 watt Marshall's normal channel and the other channel was the Express channel.

You might also want to check out the Climax circuits, this should give you some idea's.

BTW those are great sounding clips of your 6V6 Express. That's going to be my next build when I'm done with the Deluxe Reverb. Which schematic did you use for it ?
