6V6 Rocket
got a handle on some 5e3 iron suited to a PP 6v6 amp, after building a 6l6 rocket i,m thinking 6v6 rocket as well, anyone got a layout suitable or can i use RJ,s rockster layout
Re: 6V6 Rocket
If you built a 6L6 Rocket already why would you want a 6V6 Rocket or need a layout to build the 6V6 Rocket? I don't get it?
Change the tubes to 6V6 in your 6L6 Rocket.
Structo modified this layout for 6V6.

Re: 6V6 Rocket
Cuase the 6l6 are being changed for KT,s and i reckon the iron i,m looking at will only be good for 18-20 watt pus i,m a greedy bugger with amps lolM Fowler wrote:If you built a 6L6 Rocket already why would you want a 6V6 Rocket or need a layout to build the 6V6 Rocket? I don't get it?

Re: 6V6 Rocket
Mark is there a TAG approved 6L6 rocket? is that the rockster 66? excuse me for my ignorance but I only have my attention on stock trainwreck stuff.. anyway is a 6L6 rocket like a one input bassman cathode biased?M Fowler wrote:If you built a 6L6 Rocket already why would you want a 6V6 Rocket or need a layout to build the 6V6 Rocket? Yes to Rockster 66.Mark is there a TAG approved 6L6 rocket? is that the rockster 66? excuse me for my ignorance but I only have my attention on stock trainwreck stuff.. anyway is a 6L6 rocket like a one input bassman cathode biased?
Yes to last question. Bassman or Vox AC30 bright channel with 6L6.

Re: 6V6 Rocket
Thanks Mark!!
Interesting I wonder if a rocket preamp with a bassman power amp (adjustable bias) has been built? and how it would sound?

Re: 6V6 Rocket
That amp has been built many times by TAG members and it works lovely.redshark wrote:Thanks Mark!!

I think I have four of them in various build styles, transformers used etc.
One with 6L6s,
One with 6550
One with EL34's
and one with four EL34's.

Re: 6V6 Rocket
I'm not sure if you'll ever get TAG approval or even a consensus on the a single version of the "Rockster" amp, but if you go to my website you can get the simplest version with the latest greatest schematic and layout... which has been reviewed by many of you so it's pretty reliable at this point.

The Rocket preamp is pretty much the same that was used in the original Bassmans, 45 watt Marshalls, AC30, and so many others. If you put the Rocket front end on a Bassman power section the schematic isn't much different than a 59 Bassman. I think what distinguishes it from the Bassman and allows it to hold a spot on the Trainwreck forum is the transformer and layout similarities with the Wrecks. I also kept the Rocket preamp components and went with cathode biasing just to see if I could keep the Rocket sound and character. I think Normster actually built a Rocket with four 6V6's before I posted up the first Rockster... and he for sure put reverb in one before I did. It was Zippy that pressed me to put KT66's in it... I was never able to go back to 6V6's after that. If you've never heard a pair of KT66's in push pull you gotta try it!
I designed a "Road Rocker" with the fixed bias but never built it... so many ideas and so little time!

Re: 6V6 Rocket
would a PT (Hammond) 330-0-330 be too much for this amp?

Re: 6V6 Rocket
it would work well with KT66's but maybe a bit too hot for 6V6's. You might have a lot of clean and not so much brown at the B+ you'll get from this tranny. Also verify that you have enough current to drive your chosen power tubes. rjjoeboo88 wrote:would a PT (Hammond) 330-0-330 be too much for this amp?

Re: 6V6 Rocket
Thanks a bunch RJ.
I am new and want to learn as much as i can before i build something. Sometimes i feel stoopid asking certain questions, but you've given me insight with yours and others great answers.
My father-in-law restores jukeboxes and had this older Hammond tranny he didnt have a use for. I will just go for the proper voltages and ma. when i do build this.
Unfortunately my father-in-law's surplus parts (tranny's) are too large for smaller guitar amps, although i have a great source for vintage tubes, whoo hoo
thanks~Joe
