Complete and utter 'Wreck newbie - which does what?

Post by Bear »

I know these are all great amps, but I'm not strictly sure of the territory each covers.

The Liverpool is the first one, right? AC-30 inspired but with more available oomf?

Express and Rocket I don't have a good handle on which does what tricks. What kind of range and territory for each?

The Komet is the Kendrick built design, and not a particularly hot ticket if I gather?

Your clarification (or obfuscation) is appreciated.

Dear Bear

I think it is safe to say some people like the distorted sound of these amps, though I don't think anyone who likes big clean sounds will be talking volumes about them, look elsewhere for those country and western tones. I think some of the metal players would also find them lacking.

I think of them as a great sounding seventies amp.

The Liverpool is suppose to be the first amp (Ginger) I think I read somewhere, that someone approached K.F. saying that they liked the gain of their Mark 1 Mesa Boogie amp but preferred the sound of their Vox AC-30. The Liverpool was a high gain Vox like amp. It is a 24 watt amp.

The Express is a Liverpool like pre-amp with a EL-34 output stage. It is a 35 watt amp.

The Rocket is Ken's idea of a Vox AC-30.

The Kendrick built Trainwreck amp is called a Climax. I'm not sure that Ken likes the Climax to be called a Trainwreck amp, though they were built with the Trainwreck badge on them.

The Komet amp is Ken's latest offering, it is in some way very similar to the Express amp, and in other ways a departure from the Express circuit.
Yours Sincerely
