Nice to see this thread that started on a bad note evolved into something good.

So how do you like the amp after the upgrades?Southbay Ampworks wrote:Steve, I had Billy Yates install the footswitch mod and retrofit the PPIMV that was already there, so I can't tell you for sure how it was wired up.
As of yesterday, though, I had the PPIMV taken out after Dave Friedman found the bad filter caps w/wrong values, and a bad ground on the speaker jack. He said it sounded twice as good without the PPIMV, although in all honesty, putting in the right filter cap values and fixing the ground had something to do with it as well.
So I'm going to try it this weekend without the PPIMV, and use either a Faustine Phantom or the new Alex's Attenuator with the amp, and see if I think it sounds better without it.
I still thought the amp sounded pretty damned good with the tweaks done by Billy, but if it's as improved as Dave says, then I may be buying an attenuator.
God knows I can use it for my 71 Super Lead I just acquired.

I love it, it's even more of a beast after the PPIMV was taken out, and the other upgrades done. Just have to go with an attenuator now since it's loud as f**k. I'll be testing the Alex Attenuator on Saturday vs the Faustine Phantom.Lousyatit wrote:So how do you like the amp after the upgrades?
I just tested a client's 65w pair of speakers with it, and he knew they were good since I put the amp on 9.75...ok, I dimed it. LOL
It didn't sound quite right with a Mullard in V1, but it sure did with a Telefunken, Bugle Boys in V2/V3, and some ANOS XF2's in the power tube sockets.
Bloom, complexity, controlled feedback, and just huge tone fatness is where it's at now.
