Bendix 5992s? They're probably unobtanium by now, but the buzz was that they were awesome in hi-fi, but too clean for guitar. Might be just the ticket in a Trainwreck. I might still have a pair somewhere. Have to check.

I've tried it. It worked great, I love the tone of kt66's. I had to play with the screen supply to get back a little of that express wildness and bloom. I dropped the big 1k down to 470ohm or so, I think I left the 1k's on the sockets alone. It's been awhile so I don't remember perfectly but I do recall being surprised at how screen current draw related to how the amp behaved. It made a big difference, without the screen hungry el34's the amp wanted much less resistance in the way of the screens to get the goods.
