copper wire grounding buss

anyone know where to source the copper wire for grounding pots.

I was planning on just using Alpha pots. Are these non-stainless steel?

1. Romex wire (house wiring wire)

2. Solder to them all you want. NOT stainless steel. Probably a good idea to scratch/grind on the back first for a good fresh surface.

In a harware store electrical wiring section. Any 14-2, 12-2, 12-3 wire will work or you can get bare copper or rolls of colored copper wire for use in running through conduit.

Do you know anyone that maybe has some clippings?

I also use the braided bare copper wire found in swap lighting.

Lowes,hobby lobby, hardware stores,etc.. look for copper picture hanging wire.
comes in a roll pack 18ga. Works perfect.

Hey Richie I never thought of using that since I have so much wire on hand for remodeling jobs I never go shopping for wire.

That have a coating? If so, assume it's easily strippable.

I just got the largest single strand pvc jacketed wire at Lowe's and stripped. 12-14 gauge? It's been a while. 10 feet has lasted me awhile.

I used some 2.5mm2 (EU standard) electrical wire, normally used for ordinary house installations to wire up switches to lights, etc. Just strip it and when using Alpha pots (like I did) scratch the backs and solder it onto it. Use your faceplate (the back) to keep the stack in place and 'voilà' as we say in France

I use 16 or 14 gauge romex ground wire and run some sandpaper over it to get the oxide off it to solder, pretty easy...

A little flux added to the pot helps, as well.

Anything above 12ga will have trouble fitting into the eyelets on the pots.

So 14ga is probably the safest bet.
I think you can buy it by the foot at Home Depot or Lowes.

Forgive me if this is to far off topic or already been answered elswhere.

What is the preferred method of attaching the ground buss for stainless steel (PEC? others?) or other less solder amenable pots?

I am still working my way through the details of Ron W's build guide (great work BTW!) but don't recall seeing a discussion there in my first "quick pass".
