Q regarding Express schematic

Post by Beez »

On the Express schematic I noticed how big the PI input coupling capacitor is (typically 0.1) and how small the coupling cap between the 2nd & 3rd gain stage is (0.002), it's the opposite to the Blackface Fenders.

Can anyone shed some light on why they think it was done this way?

Thanks

I'd guess that it's because the 3rd stage amplifies and clips in the Express whereas it barely does either in a Fender.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

So if you had a .02 feeding the 3rd gain stage your thinking it might overload that stage?

If you are referring to C8..... it forms an RC network with R7 and is the primary tuning point for the amp determining the freq roll off.
I think putting too large a value cap in there will push you towards blocking distortion.
