My X10 has begun

Post by surfsup »

Some notes:
-V1 and V2 are 12at7s, V3 is 12ax7
-16x8x2.5 chassis to fit the Solens, V1 solen is a 400V
-last pic shows two board screws right next to OT/PT front/back corner. Its tight, be aware of this.
-I use two extra UF4007s to split the powersupply rail, you don't need 'em
-PT is Edcor XPWR107_120
-OT is CXPP25-MS-8K
-Choke is XC75-15H-75mA
-B+ is 340. Go with 400-420R for the PS Rs on the AC side for less with 600AC PT
-Treble pot is a push pull CTS 1M from AES

Current layout (uploaded 6/18/2011) is posted here...
-added 33k at V2 pin 2 screen
-changed to a 100k/100k Rg before V2 (100k HB, 200k SingleCoil)
-added 470k/470k Vdivider between V1a and V1b

Well I see I forgot to drill a hole at the lower right corner, doh. I'll have to make sure to do that.

ampmike, I used a drill press and hand drill, I PM'd you a longer post/description of why.

masco, I built the turretboard so I can do both. but initially I plan to only scale the PA and leave the preamp at full voltage.

nice job on the turret board - I've done a few myself, once you get it sorted they're pretty easy to do. I'm looking forward to watching this, as it's on my radar as well!

Are you using two different size turrets?

angelo, yes. Weird story: I ordered eyelets and some double turrets. I figured I would use the double turrets where there were 4 or more connections or at large gauge wire like the solens. Then my order at watts got screwed up because he was out of some stuff, so he subbed in a bunch of single turrets instead of some caps. So I then decided since I had enough to use singles and doubles, all turret style with no eyelets. Then I had too few singles so used extra doubles. My drillplan indicated where to use doubles or singles. I'll post it later but if you're not using the solens, not sure if my d/p will work 4u since they are pretty big caps and you don't need to give em so much room.

sure thing

Cool, if it works.... inside of Henry' amps ( Redplate ), he mixes it up with turrets and eyelets, a unique style...its all about tone.

Very cool that this build is progressing here in USA and Italy ....

Awaiting your further images.

I have used two sizes of turrets along with eyelets on a board before.

Depends on if I want to raise some leads above others like ala Hoffman style board.

Another crappy phone camera pic but the turretboard is pretty much done and ready. A bit of a hodge podge of components but its what I'm starting with...

Still no word from Edcor on shipment of the trannies....changes:
I used a 0.15uF for the LED and a 270k 3W for the bleeder between first two caps instead of 220k 3W (can't see this resistor but u can see the leads run under the caps).

Other than that all the values are the same. I used a lot of polystyrene caps (silver are Phillips from hndme.com) and mostly CF Rs, but did put in a few PRPs and a few IRC CF replacements (3x 1M at PI and input jack). Two 100k MF for the plates on the PI (people posted the PI was a sensitive area so I went with quiet here).

I couldn't get all sozos (only have two 0.01uFs) so that's the reason for the lack of sozos. I hope this isn't a deal breaker.

I used ohmite wirewounds pretty much for the rail, and the Ptube cathode
I used Relcap "Audiocap" for the relcap (big yellow cap at v1 in third row)
Vishay for the three cathode caps
PRPs for all three Rk (hard2see: under first two cathode vishay caps for V1)
The white are CDE polypropylene caps.
UF4007 for all 7 diodes on the board.
Orange LED is a sprague but for this prob. doesn't matter

One word on the layout. I am VERY glad I drilled the holes to route wires under the board but wrap them up top. The green ground from the 220k Rs after the PI broke off in the turret with the big cap and I couldn't get it out so I had to run the wire a different way. Having the holes already drilled and available was great. Not as nice as if I didn't screw up but maybe this helps someone else.
