Ceriatone Expression OT change....?

Post by Shai`tan »

Has anyone here changed out your Expression OT to a Pacific or Heyboer? And if so, what were your results tonewise? Thx for any input.

Gary,

Swapping out the OT is probably the most common upgrade you'll find on a Ceriatone amp. I don't know if anyone has done a before and after comparison with sound clips but the reports are generally favorable. The search protocol here at TAG can take a little work to sort out but once you do you should be able to look for your key words and find the posts on that topic.

The site search function here is kind of difficult to make any headway in.
To my mind it is more effective to use a mainstream search-engine and use the word ampgarage along with the subject to tell it where to look.
Possibly you can tell a search engine to search a only specific site, but I'm not savvy enough to do that.
Sorry no experience with Ceriatone.

See here: http://www.google.com/support/websearch ... 36861&rd=3

Basically just add "site:ampgarage.com" (without quotes) to a Google search.

Gary,

The notes here are telling you something important. Since most topics like this have been sorted out numerous times, the info is here. However, nobody in the forum typically memorizes the titles or locations so it takes a little searching. When we see that you are at 2 posts now the desire to find that info comes back to you and the search function will be key. When you get to several hundred posts and you can't find something we know that you are old like most of us and you forgot how to search... then you still don't get any help while your friends make fun of you.

You'll actually find that The Amp Garage (TAG) has a great interlink to Google. If you google a relevant topic you'll often find yourself directed to a TAG post.

:-) Thanks Martin. I learnt something today.
I never liked to use Google search because I find it has a silly name!
Well, silly me... I posted this into 'oogle:
site:ampgarage.com ceriatone output transformer expression
and am amazed how deep you can drill down into that subject just on this site alone.
Good luck Gary with your OT choice.

Gary,

I have done this minor surgery for a number of Ceriatone wreck owners and the results have been very good. The stock transformers work, but are by no means best of class. I think you get the most mileage from replacing the OT, but switching both is a good idea. I have seen quite a few Ceriatone PTs fail with some very weird behavior. Transformers make a huge difference, so you may as well use best in class (Pacific, Heyboer, Edcor, etc.).

Thx all for your replies. Now I need to find out who sells the OT/PT pairs for either Heyboer, or Pacific. I have done alot of reading here and searches etc. Wrecks seem to be Pacific used for correctness, but for some odd reason Heyboer keeps running thru my brainpan. lol

I`ll do some more digging, and try to order a good PT/OT pair. Thx again.

Allyn does Pacifics, and RJ does Pacific, Heyboer, and Edcor IIRC.

Hello,
Just my .02 here.... RJ is the man and is awesome to deal with. I bought my pacific iron from him and he even got me a chassis for a custom project.

Just made my order with RJ. Thx again.
I hope the Heyboers rock for me. Thinking of adding Mallory PVC series power supply and signal caps too.

Use the Ceriatone transformers for a Marshall style 40-50w amp. Nik's PT's seem to put out some power and they are 5k2/6k6 so you could make a lot of different amps out of this tranny set.

Thx again. Any idea how long RJ takes to send an Invoice? He must be away, cause I haven`t had any email confirmation of my payment for my order yet.

Thanks Mark.... yep I was visiting down in south Tejas. I would love to have my shop down there for the winter months. We saw 90 degrees and a couple inches of rain this weekend. rj
