My rocket clone video.......

Post by redshark »

I think building a stock rocket (no mods) is the way to go......
The dynamics, complexity and crunch of a rocket makes it the best of the trainwreck lineup IMO...

Like the best clean sounds ever. There are a couple things you could spend your life trying to get right in a studio, and clean guitar sounds are one of those things. Rockets sound like perfection!

Yes, cleans are awesome but what I like the most is the response to right hand pick attack. Also that swirly sound like a mild univibe when you let the clean notes ring.

I don't see an attenuator. It must be stupid loud in there! Sounds good.

Swirly? Have you been hanging out with Dumble fans?

I'm not a fan of el84 tubes except in this circuit and the one it tips it's hat to.. or actually, the amp this one stole it's hat from, and then tipped it to.

;)

Yes, no attenuator and yes it's loud!!!

You can hear the mic of the camera distorts a little when I open it up!!

The swirly thing IMO is more present in the rocket clean sound than in Dumbles. The tone of the rocket is more complex as EL84's have more harmonic distortion as other tubes. Also is cathode bias. I think a combination of both is what creates that mild univibey kinda tone.

Do you mean AC-30 reeltarded? actually IMO Ken didn't steal anything, he improved and re-engineered the amp to make it reliable and changed its sound a little bit, I see u r in GA, PM me if you want to check it out...

Hey redshark, nice sounding amp. +1 on the great clean tones (and clean to a touch of hair). I love the rocket circuit. Your clip reminded me of a rocket I built a few years ago. Sadly I had to let it go. But oh my did it have fantastic clean tone...at least to me. Here are a few clips of my old amp. I've posted them here before. I in no way want to derail your thread...just coming along side and congratulating your nice build, and say that yours sounded like mine!

Yes rawnster, thanks!!. I heard your clips long time ago before I even built the amp. I love the rocket too!! more than the clean tone itself is the right hand dynamics, the harmonic complexity, the chime, I think is the best of the trainwreck family.
I don't see your post as derailing the thread man, this thread is about how a rocket sounds and your old clips were an inspiration for sure. You should build another one. i know my rocket will be with me for as long as I play!!.
Cheers!!!

Thanks for posting all those clips. Those amps sound great, even on my crappy computer speakers.

What were all the knobs set at?

The gain level seems to be just about right. Most Rockets I've heard here have much too much gain.

Nice job!

Thanks Allyn!! V 1:30 T 1 B 11 C 2o'clock
I need to find a better way to record the amp. The alesis video track doesn't have an automatic input level so it was clipping when I digged in deeper. I wish I could record it properly.
Mostly was a tele bridge pickup, or middle position, speaker is a celestion gold in a 1x12.

Redshark

Are you using the stock 220k plate resistor on V1a?
