It is much more affordable when you leave out the rheostat. The bedroom mode is not really that useful IMHO due to excessive buzziness. Personally, I'd rather use a decent distortion box, and just turn the volume really low. But the Airbrake is useful for that small drop in output (a few db) without changing tone. It is also good for protecting your speakers when their rating is marginal.

3. $31.38 Mouser# 588-RJS150E: Ohmite Power: Rheostat: 50Watts: 150 ohms
4. $4.76 Mouser# 10WA365: Lorlin Rotary Switch: 2 pole: 6 position
5. $2.24 Mouser# 588-12-E: Resistor Mounting: brackets 4 needed
6. $3.28 Mouser# 588-2125E 2 extra lugs
7. $13.23 Mouser# 546-1444-14: 5" X 9" X 2": Hammond spot welded aluminum Chassis
8. $5.09 Mouser# 546-1434-14: 5" X 9": Hammond aluminum chassis cover
9. $1.63 Mouser# 75-715P400V0.1: Capacitors 400volts .10uF 5% ORANGE DROP

Total: $88.86

That's a doable price....compared to spending 3x cash on certain "name brand" products.
You gonna build one??? If so, I'd like to get in on that....

Hey David, I'm thinking about it. It'd be a nice companion to this raucous Express.

And I'm thinking about it as I don't want to do the master volume thing anymore... Let's do it!

That is, unless someone knows of a better attenuator that one could use/build...

I wonder about using the Alpha or Lorlin plastic switch. The Z uses that, but I've seen pics that look more like a ceramic switch. Dunno. I guess I'd like to see 1A@125V.

Also, has anyone found an alternative box with vents?

Nice man. Where did you get your enclosure, and what are its dimensions?

Also, how did you do your decals? Inkjet or Laser? Did you spray over them?

The Ceramic switch is a CK1455, which I got off another thread somewhere....

Thanks dehughes,
I bought the enclosure from mouser,( $13.23 Mouser# 546-1444-14: 5" X 9" X 2": Hammond spot welded aluminum Chassis) along with the rest of the parts. The decals were printed on 8 1/2 X 11 water slide paper I loaded into my Inkjet home printer with acrylic clear coat Check ebay. I can't find the stuff locally. :D DB.

Thanks. Do you find that enclosure to be large enough for the build, in terms of layout and heat, etc.?
